Collaborating

Earthworm Dissection

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

For me, the earthworm dissection was the most interesting experience this semester. During the dissection, my partner and I divided the tasks to help each other succeed in the lab. One of us would cut into the worm as the other helped hold down and pin the worm in place. This approach allowed us to work more efficiently and ensure we could clearly see the internal structures. By taking on separate roles and supporting each other, we completed the dissection quickly and successfully, learning a lot about teamwork and the anatomy of an earthworm in the process. I am clear on the difference between simple “group work” and collaboration as evidenced by how we shared the roles equally, actively communicated and relied on each other’s strengths to achieve our goal together.
