Fluffy, moist and flavorful, my favorite recipe we have made so far have to be the Lemon Blueberry Muffins because the flavors in this recipe go great together as you get a sweet and lemony flavor combination both in one. In this lab, we got to explore a method we hadn’t already discovered in this class which was the muffin method. This lab came easier to me as I have made muffins before but never lemon blueberry which added a new taste that I didn’t know I would enjoy.
Making and Sharing Reflection
Identify and use appropriate tools, technologies, materials, and processes for the production:
When going up as an ingredient person I make sure to take all materials needed for both accurate measurements and to be able to bring back all the correct ingredients.
Decide on how and with whom to share prepared food products:
Before starting a lab I make sure I am aware of who my partner is and talk about who will be doing what tasks/ preparations.
Core Competency Reflection
While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by asking my partner or even my group questions about the lab if I am stuck.
One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to talk to ensure nobody is lost before we start a lab because the best way to have a successful lab is to communicate with your group members.
The ways I communicate while cooking differs from how I communicate at soccer because in food class we need to think about different things such as our different safety components. In soccer, you are allowed to mess up/ make mistakes but if you make mistakes in foods it could ruin a recipe. The communication aspect is also different as in foods class you are looking to communicate with group members for any questions you have compared to soccer where you already know what you are doing in the game so you look to communicate for the ball and support your team.
If there are any disagreements in the group I find it works best by contributing all our ideas and coming up with something that fits everyone’s needs/wants. Another way is if 2 partners agree and 2 disagree. In this situation, you can let each of those pairs work together so that everyone comes to an agreement and is happy with the decision.
From this project I learned that one of the main causes of the crash was that many people invested their savings and took out loans which led to an oversupply.
I also learned that the oversupply caused a great number of goods to be produced and that many people no matter their economic state wasn’t purchasing goods which led to companies laying off workers.
Another thing that happened was that banks ended up going bankrupt due to businesses and individuals not being able to pay back the loans that they borrowed.
Core Competency: I work with others to achieve a goal: I demonstrated this when my group and I discussed who would be doing which part of the project and together we worked with each other’s ideas and asked questions revolving around the areas of the project which led us to success.
I take on roles and responsibilities in a group, I do my share: In this project, I took on the responsibility of doing one of the causes and effect slides because when in a group I understand I need to do my share of work as it is only a group if there is more than one person putting in the effort.
I work to inform myself about issues surrounding me: This was represented when I took time after completing my part of the project to understand about the stock market crash and if it had affected us in today’s time.
For this option, I decided to invest the $80,000 into a 3 Year 4.2% GIC and put the 10,000 into a 1 Year 3.5 annual non-redeemable GIC and then make a savings account for the third year.
Data and Solutions:
I started by taking the current investment amount of $80,000 and multiplied by the rate of 4.2% (1.042) which gave me $83,360. Since I 10,000 into the 1-year GIC account I added that to my recent total and got $93,360. For year 2, I took $83,360 and multiplied by 1.042 and got 86,861 which I later added to the total of the 10,000 in the 1-year GIC multiplied by 1.035 and added the savings amount of 10,000 and got $107,211. For year 3 I took $86,861 and multiplied it by 1.042 and got my final 3-year total of $90,509. For the last year in the 1 Year GIC, I took the last total of 10,350 and multiplied it by 1.035 one last time and added the additional savings amount of 20,000 and got $30,712. To get my final grand total I added both totals together and got $121,221 as my result.
3 Year 4.2% GIC:
Year 1: 80,000 x 1.042= $83,360
Year 2: 83,360 x 1.042= $86,861
Year 3: 86,861 x 1.042 = $ 90,509
1 Year 3.5% GIC:
Starting total of $80,000
Year 1: 10,000 x 1.035 = $10,350
Year 2: 10,350 x 1.035+ 20,000 = $30,712
Grand total: $90,509 + $30,712 = $121,221

Option 2:
For option 2 I would make an investment into a 3 Year nonredeemable 4.2% GIC.
Data/Solutions: To calculate the 3 Year GIC (4.2%) I started by taking the investment amount of $80,000 and multiplied it by 1.042 ( the rate, and then continued to add the $10,000 ( the annual amount we add ) and got my result of $93,360. After my result, I took the result of the year 1 multiplication (83,360) and continued to multiply it by 1.042 and got $86,861 and added the annual amount of $20,000 to the result and got $106,861 for Year 2’s total. The last solution for year 3 was to multiply the result of $86,861 from the previous calculation and multiplied it by 1.042 once again. After this, I added it to the last annual amount of $30,000. This ended with the result of $120,509 for the 3 Year GIC.
Year 1: $80,000 x 1.042= $83,360 + $10,000= $93,360
Year 2: $83,360 x 1.042= $86,861 + $20,000= $106,861
Year 3: $86,861 x 1.042= $90,509 + $30,000= $120,509
Total after 3 Year 4.2 GIC= $120,509

Which option is better?
After looking over the 2 investment options, I would rather go with Option 1 ( The 3 Year GIC+ 1 Year GIC) because I am willing to wait the longer time for the bigger investment amount in return.
3) Strengths/Weakness: I chose to do a 3-year non-redeemable GIC and a 1 Year nonredeemable GIC as it is a safe/low-risk investment, unlike stocks which are much riskier and you are earning a fair amount of money as well. GICs are also a great option because you are guaranteed to make money and by choosing stocks you have a higher risk of loss, and since my risk tolerance is low it is a perfect option for me. A weakness of GICs is that breaking the contract is very difficult and will result in penalties occurring. GICs also won’t be as profitable as other investments over long periods of time. Personally, I feel like choosing to invest in GICs was an option that fits me because I am a person that would like to be financially firm.
4) Over the first few days I worked with B, T, and C. I felt that there wasn’t enough contribution in this group and it felt like there were only 2 people doing the work. Working in groups let me get a better understanding of what was going on because during discussions different groups would contribute their ideas to the class which really helped us out. By also working in a group it gave me the opportunity to help out and explain the concepts of the different parts of this project to a group member. While working in this group I often didn’t and myself distracted and tried staying on task, by doing this it led me to get an understanding of how this project works and different concepts of this as well, but in order to do this I felt like I was doing work on my own instead of a group because some members weren’t really contributing. I didn’t use any of the solutions from my group because we didn’t really have any as the group was mostly spaced out and it felt like everyone was doing their own things, so I ended up using a solution I came up with myself. I would rate my ability to collaborate with groups a 3 because at times I feel I take responsibility in groups and have other people getting ideas from me to branch it off into their own. My personal preference in groups is to work with those that have good work ethic/habits and stay on task and contribute with other members because that leads to success and knowledge being used/learned.
Core Competency: I remained open-minded as I explored viable options or alternatives like when I was able to consider using the different investment options available and being able to explore what they are all about as well.
I showed that I value feedback from my group during the time with my group by engaging in the work and positively reacting to the feedback that they give me because it is better to work with a positive mindset rather than a negative one.
I can contribute to and work with criteria to improve my own work; evidence of that is during this project and multiple past projects I make sure to look over all my completed work to make sure that all criteria is met and sometimes even go beyond that given criteria.
An example of when I built upon someone else’s ideas was when my group was sharing our information on the research of what different investment ideas were and their benefits and weaknesses. The way I added on was by asking questions to get. a bigger idea and helped add relevant information to the investment option.
In discussions and conversations, I help to build and extend my understanding by asking questions and contributing my ideas to others to help create even bigger ideas. In order to extend my understanding in a discussion with the class I start to take notes in order to completely understand by looking back at the notes when needed.
What stood out to me from the John Henderson Talk was the fact that he had not only the language that he spoke but also his culture that he was proud of and embraced taken away. It breaks my heart to see that someone could take away something so important from another, as this language (cree) was all John had spoken and knew prior to attending Residential Schools. Another thing that stood out to me was the fact that the children had to be taken away from families which I can’t imagine the pain that not only the children had to go through but also the parents/guardians. The misery that the children had to go through really breaks my heart as I couldn’t imagine what would happen if I ever had to experience any of what those children in Residential Schools went through.
I believe the poem ” I Lost My Talk” represented John’s story immensely great. This poem mentions how the children’s first languages were both immediately taken at the Residential school’s. Another thing is that after they had gotten out of The Residential Schools they had forgotten how to speak their given languages, and instead could only speak the language that was forcibly spoken to them at the schools (English.
Advancing into math 9 from middle school wasn’t very difficult to adjust to, but rather stressful by being in a different environment and seeing percentages instead of letter grades or being on the proficiency scale. Even thought it was pretty easy to adjust, it still is quite stressful in class when you aren’t meeting the standards that you hope to reach, especially because I aim to do better than how I am right now. Throughout elementary school until grade 7 I was pretty good at math, but once I hit grade 8 I started to do more poor from the recent years. My guess of why this happened was the fact I was getting older and more stressed about my grades, and how I would do, causing me to be too anxious in order to focus which had led me to do poorly.
I wasn’t expecting to do as poorly as I feel I am doing right now coming in to math 9. I believe apart of why I am doing worse than I would like to is my mindset on how negative I feel I’m doing. I can change this by thinking more positively instead of having a rather negative mindset coming into class. I also need to take responsibility for myself and start to ask more questions in class when I don’t understand a concept or area because if I just leave myself confused then I will not help prepare myself for both upcoming tests and math classes in the coming years.
My initial goal for math this year is to get an A, or if not a high B, but obviously it is reaching a lot by asking for this. Although it is going to take a lot of hard work and determination I believe I can achieve these goals by the help of both my teacher, peer tutor and those in my life that I have available, such as parents, siblings or friends. A plan I also have for this year is to get a math tutor. I want to get a tutor because this will help me stay focused and keep my math grade high and where I feel proud of. Really, the only person to hold accountable is myself as I am the one that needs to take the responsibility of achieving my goals, but those that can help me achieve those goals can be my parents, siblings and other family members there to support.
Curricular Competency: From this assignment I learned that many products can become obsolete by just the invention/introduction of one product, this is because the newer products may have better functions and or details added to them that the obsolete products did not have. I also learned that a product innovation doesn’t have to only be an individual product like a bicycle, but it can also be a service that is available such as delivery services like Uber eats or door dash. Lastly, from my project I learned that there are multiple types of businesses with different functions of working such as corporations, cooperatives, sole proprietorships and partnerships.
Core Competency: In my Product Innovation Assignment, one of the Core Competencies I demonstrated was Creative Thinking. I demonstrated this by developing ideas from both my own knowledge from this topic and using the textbook for reference and reviewing my answers to make sure they are correct.
I also demonstrated the Core Competency Personal Awareness and Responsibility by using my work time wisely in order to complete the given assignment and also demonstrated this by taking pride and ownership of the work I complete and create.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection
Some of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships are to only add those that I know online to prevent myself from encountering people that may appose as harm or a threat. I also maintain relationships with those I know online by using appropriate language in order to not hurt anyone or cause fights or friendships to end.
I make digital ethical choices such as considering what to/not to post online before I hit the post button because I myself know that whatever you post online has a high chance of staying there forever for others to see, whether that’s in the workplace, those you know or just strangers online getting to see your identity.
I know that my digital footprint can have both positive and negative consequences, including only visiting sites that I know are secure in order to prevent viruses or malware, adding only those I know online, posting with caution and thinking before I even post, using appropriate language when talking to people online, being aware that I shouldn’t open random links from strangers online or those on websites leading you.
A goal I have moving forward in this school year is to maintain an organized lifestyle both at school, sports and home by finding ways to help myself achieve this. Some ways I can stay organized at school is to always keep papers in my binder, so nothing gets lost. Another way I can maintain this goal at school is to come to school with the necessary materials needed every day. This will help me not hold up my time and class and always be prepared for any upcoming assignments or work that require materials. In sports I can stay organized by bringing my equipment such as my soccer ball to practice every day along with correct jerseys so that I can have more time on the field than trying to keep myself put together. Finally, in order to stay organized at home I need to maintain a clean and organized workspace for when doing homework and studying. This is important to do because I will not have to look around all the time for my materials needed when working and to also ensure that I am prepared for the real world ahead of me by being able to manage my own workspace.
How do you learn best?
I learn best by paying attention in class by being a good listener and taking notes, by doing this I am keeping myself prepare and aware to study and work hard for both tests and to help myself become a stronger learner in different areas. Another way I also tend to focus with is by listening to music as it helps clear my mind and lets me concentrate on the topic I am working on. By having music in my ears, I am able to freely write and let my pen flow as it takes away all the stress I may have about school and even sports.
A long-term goal I have for this school year is to create a healthy balance that will allow me to feel both success and happiness by the end of the school year. The balance I would like to maintain is studying for school and keeping my grades high but also to remember that I need to stay active on my social and physical life as well by continuing to play sports and hang out with my friends often. This balance allows for connections to both be made and maintained and to keep my body active by continuing to play sports and possibly even try out new ones. I believe by keeping this healthy balance it will really have a toll on lowering stress levels about school and sports.
