Analysis

I ended up spending $246.96 on a special day for my mom. This accounted for 82% of the budget. If i had a budget of only $100, then i would have just gone to the movie thearter. If i had a budget of $500, then I would have added bowling, and afterwards gone out for some bubble tea as well!

Reflection

I chose my mom because she deserves a day off from all the stressfull work she does day after day. I spent the budget the way i did because all the places i have picked are close by and it doesnt take long to get there.

My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

This year I learned many things in my ICT (Information Computer Technology) class. I learned how to use Blender, a 3D modeling app, where I made houses, food, and more. I also used Photoshop and animation software. This was one of my favorite classes because it was fun, challenging, I made friends, and I got top student. In Social Studies, my favorite units were the French Revolution, where we learned about King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette, and the Industrial Revolution, where we learned about all the machinery that was used. In Dungeons and Dragons I learned how to role-play, make characters, and create campaigns to play. During band, I continued to improve on the flute and learned to play many different tunes. I can’t wait for our band to go to Disneyland in March. I am happy with my first semester as I achieved good marks in all my courses.

A Useful Educational Website

https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/build-an-atom/latest/build-an-atom_all.html

This website helps a person understand how atomic particles come together to form elements by letting the user combine neutrons, protons, and electrons in a simulator. It explains the concepts of atomic mass, atomic number, the different orbits that electrons are in, ions, and valence electrons. I found this tool very helpful when studying the periodic table in science class.

A Useful Educational Video

This video is a great introduction to Blender and 3D modeling. I used it in one of my assignments where we had to create several houses with different roofs. The tutorial starts with a blank canvas and then progresses with basic 2D shapes like rectangles and circles, and then continues to extrude them into 3D shapes. I really enjoyed working with Blender and hope to use it again soon.

A Useful Educational Image

This is an infographic I created on cell division. It explains the stages of Meiosis and Mitosis and the differences between them. This project took a lot of effort to put together. A lot of time was spent finding images that would make each phase simple and easy to understand. The final image was printed on an 18×24 poster board. It turned out great and I was proud of the end result!

Inspirational Quote

“A champion is someone who gets up when they can’t.” – Jack Dempsey

This is a great quote and refers to the idea of always pushing on, even when things get tough or difficult. The person who keeps going even when it seems they’re at the end of the rope, is the true champion.

Science 9 – Physics Unit

Physics – What I Learned

Core Competency Reflection

A) My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include using reliable sources like textbooks, online resources, and class notes to make sure I have the right information I need. I make sure to focus on the main ideas by using the main ideas presented in the lessons or the assignments. For experiments, I followed the steps and wrote the important stuff down. I worked with my classmates to help with homework or with studying.

B) If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to listen to everyone’s side of the story to understand their points of view. I try to keep calm and encourage the group to speak up so that everyone feels heard. Once all of everybodys ideas are shared, I work with the group to come up with a solution we can all agree on together. If some of our group members still don’t feel comfortable in the group, i might suggest they go outside to get a drink of water or a short break so they come back to the group calm and colected.

C) A few goals I have for Science 10 are to always stay on top of my schoolwork by keeping track of assignments and deadlines in a calander, and setting aside special time for studying each week. I want to actively participate in class and ask more questions to expand my knowledge of the unit. Another goal is to improve my problem solving skills by practicing questions that might be on the test. and reviewing feedback from my teacher. I will try to work more effiecently with my peers during group projects and labs, to make sure we complete tasks on time.

Blender Food Assignment Reflection

What core competencies did you demonstrate with the Blender Food Assignment?

  1. Communication: I think about what I am going to convey and to whom I will convey it to. An example of this is the picture of the food. I tried to have good lighting so that it looked good. I also tried to be selective about the container sizes the food is in.
  2. Personal/Social: I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I really like the bowl the avocados are in. I like how the bowls and plates are smooth. I wish I could’ve gotten a more realistic texture, but I ran out of time.
  3. Thinking: I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I started with a plate, then I transformed it into a couple of other containers like a bowl and a basket.

My Advertisement

Persuasion and Advertising Learning Reflection

Which advertising technique did you choose and how did you use that technique to create your poster?

The advertising technique I chose was the plain folk and special offer technique. I demonstrated the plain folk technique with a child holding my 3d printer product, this makes other children want to by my product. My special offer was 70% off this week only, this will make people want to by my product before it is to late.

Explain how and why you chose the colours, words, background, etc. that you used to make your advertisement.

I made my special offer sign red and the background black because the red would stand out under the picture. I wrote clearance sale because that would make sure people know that I dont have many 3d printers left. For my background it was plain black so that the important parts would stand out like the picture.

What do you think others who aren’t in your class should know about advertising?

There are different types of advertising, like video content, or interactive ads, if you were to make a video add, you should always make sure to speak loud and clear, stay on the important topic, and stay ethical.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicated clearly and purposefully on this project can be seen in the picture of the child holding the toy, this ensures that kids are going to be interested my product, I communicated clearly when i put down the clearance sale.

One strategy or activity that stimulated my imagination on this project was my own 3d printer, I thought this would be a good idea because lots of people like 3d printers and toys.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are staying on task, researching ideas, and asking for help.

ADL/Socials Project Edublog post

violence justified 1.mp4

Is violence justified during a revolution or protest?

How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project?

AI was useful in collecting ideas and facts about the pros and cons in the use of violence. Perplexity is a great research tool as it also provides links to the sources.

How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI?

I made sure to paraphrase most of the content produced by AI. I also combined sentences from other sources online (through google) to create new sentences in the script.

Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?

My position was to argue FOR the violence. I believe that the violence was in self-defence against the oppression from the government and the class system. Of course one would want to prioritize non-violence wherever possible, but when everyone is in fear of being sent to the guillotine for the smallest infraction, it’s no surprise that violence was the result.

Core Competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include using AI, primarily Perplexity.ai, for citing my sources, as well as using my own notes and regular googling to get my information about the French revolution and violence related details.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is to first have a discussion about the various topics, have each person list some pros and cons, and then decide which points to include in the podcast

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in the video/podcast where I argue the point that speaks FOR the justification of violence. I made sure to speak clearly and in a quiet environment. Unfortunately my partner was not available for the final audio recording, and so I read his side of the arguement as well (agains violence).

Photoshop Me In Layers Reflection

In the “Photoshop Me In Layers” assignment I was able to exercise a number of core competencies, including communication, personal/social skills, and creative/critical thinking skills.

I used three images to create a new image. They were photos from a family trip to Hawaii. The one of me getting attacked by a toy shark was taken at a souvenir shop and the others were taken during a pirate ship tour. This is the final image.

For the communication competency, I spend a lot of time thinking about what I am going to say and to whom. I ask a lot of questions, although, not always in person. I go online and ask Google, Bing, Perplexity and others. I like sharing information, listnening to others, and checking out their work.

For the personal/social competency I like having a sense of getting stuff done. I know what is important to me and I can explain my objectives. Although I didn’t work in a group for this assignment, I think it would be fun to. I like helping out where I can. I recently helped a friend with some computer and photoshop issues.

For the thinking competency, I think the picture above shows some thought and creativity. I had no idea how it would turn out but I knew that the individual parts looked good together. I checked out a lot of images before coming up with these three. Having photo editing skills is really useful and will definitely come in handy for many upcoming projects.

ADL: About Me

My Avatar

About Me

Hi, I’m Ryan and I’m into a lot of things. I love sports and play basketball and badminton. I also follow wrestling and hockey. I also really like video games (who doesn’t?). Right now I’m playing a lot of Fortnite, Minecraft and many online games. Minecraft is a game I’ve been playing for years now and I often join others online. I’ve also been playing the flute for a couple of years and look forward to going to Disneyland with the band in the spring. I was fortunate to go to a number of camps last summer. I spent a week at Camp Stillwood in Chilliwack and another week at Timberline Ranch. Both had tons of great activities including an exclusive visit to Cultus Lake Waterslides! My favorite part of the summer though was going to the PNE with my friends. We went on all the rides including “The Beast”. The junk food there is pretty good too!

My goal for this year is to do well in all the classes, make lots of new friends, and have fun along the way. I’m doing a lot of new things like playing Dungeons & Dragons and joining the Cross-Country team, so I hope to do well in all of those.
