My grade 9 year
This year I overcame many challenges I faced in my first semester of high-school. My transition to high-school was much harder than I thought it would be. I felt overwhelmed and this caused me to feel unmotivated as I felt there was so much work to do. I ended up procrastinating and not doing the work. Eventually, with the help of my family and teachers, I realized I had to get the work done and it wasn’t just going to go away. I asked for help and extensions and plugged away at it slowly. I learned and implemented some strategies that helped me get my work done. As I started to do better in my classes, I learned what was expected and required of me. This, in turn, motivated me to do better and better.
By the end of my first semester, I reached my goal of getting “Proficient” in all my Semester 1 classes. I started some off them at “Emerging” and “Developing” and I made up my mind that I needed to get Proficient in the classes. I worked tirelessly to achieve “Proficients” and “Extendings” in the assignments I handed in order to bring my final mark up. I have been working in implementing this work ethic this second semester as well. I have learned my stretches are time management and avoidance. I sometimes take more time than I should or need to on certain assignments and this leaves me with little time to get every thing done. Also I manage time poorly by not starting on and working on assignments right away when they are assigned. When I fall behind, I resort to avoidance and it becomes even harder for me to complete assignments on time. Time management is a critical skill I need to work on, as with my busy lacrosse
schedule where I train seven days a week, I need to ensure I stay on top of my school work. This is something I would like to work on as I know in post secondary this important skill will define my ability to succeed.
A key difference in my learning and the learning of my peers is that I plan and hope to go to a Post-Secondary Institution in the United States that has a lacrosse program. This has affected my first year in high school as I feel I don’t have as much time to adjust to high school as many of my peers. The U.S. colleges look at grades from Grade 9 as well and so not only do I have to choose my post secondary program early, I also have to ensure my grades are good as soon as I started Grade 9. This was a challenge for me as I had no time to adjust to high school from middle school.
For this assignment as well, I should have asked for an extension on my Due Date before it was due. However, I didn’t ask for it until after it was due when I realized I needed more time than I had initially thought in order to do what I thought was a good job. I have learned a lot about communication with my teachers, and I hope to continue to build on myself as I have a lot of growing and learning to do. I would like my teachers to know that I am working hard and doing my best to improve, and thank them for their support and patience.

A Useful Educational Website
This website is useful for education because it helps students memorize terms and concepts. You input terms and definitions, and it creates digital flashcards and can generate practice tests. This is particularly helpful when studying for tests and exams. Quizlet is free to use but you can pay for extended features of this website.
I have used Quizlet for Socials and French last semester and Science, so far this semester. I have told many others about it as I find it so useful for me and my learning style and i hope it can help someone else as well.
A Useful Educational Video
This video is useful for education because it provides a tool for studying. The “blurting method” works when you read all your notes, put them away, and then write down everything you can remember on a separate piece of paper, not using your notes. You then take that blank piece of paper and fill in the gaps that you missed by using your notes you took. This helps to fill in the gaps in your memory as well, tying different pieces of your memory together and creating new learning pathways in your brain. The “blurting method” is a way to practice active recall, and this helps memorize notes. On this TikTok page, there are also other useful hacks and tips for studying and note taking.
A Useful Educational Image

In Business 9, we are learning about different types of businesses. I find this image useful for education overall and also specifically my own learning because this infographic gives a clear definition on the differences between the types of businesses and has an image for visual reference. Infographics like these are very useful for visual learners such as myself because it helps to match words to an image.
I have found this infographic to be informative, concise, and uses language that is easy to remember for me. I also find the images that go with it help me to remember and also the layout of how it goes from a sole-ownership to a co-op me to remember the different types of businesses and the structure of each.
An Inspirational Quote
“The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” —Dr. Seuss
This quote was always read to me in elementary school and it has resonated with me. My elementary school principal Mr. Passaglia used to read it to us at the end of every school and I especially remember it when I graduated elementary school in grade 5. It reminds me of how far I have come slowly year after year and how I can keep learning and building on this year after year. The fact that I still feel it is relevant is a testament to how it has impacted me and my views on learning and how its is a lifelong process.
