Reflection on my career research report in CLE 10

I’m interested in the careers, law, forensic investigation, and criminal psychology because I like solving problems and understanding why people do what they do. Law interests me because I want to help people and make sure things are fair and its overall in my skillset and i would enjoy my work. Forensic investigation seems exciting because it’s like solving mysteries using clues and evidence. Criminal psychology is interesting because I want to understand how the mind works and why some people do what they do and how to help them be better. After learning more about these careers after our project, I realized they all need good thinking and communication skills. I’m interested in studying criminal justice, psychology, or pre-law in the future. Right now, I’m getting ready by doing well in school and researching more about these topic. I know it will take time and effort but I’m excited to see where it takes me.

Some short/long-term goals for myself include doing better in school, learning more about law and crime, and getting a good job that helps people. my plan to reach these goals is to pay attention in class and ask for help.

I respectfully advocate for my needs by speaking up when I’m confused or need support. I try to be clear when I talk about what I need. If something isn’t working for me I let someone know so I can do better.

I appreciate feedback on how I can do better with schoolwork or learning. I like it when feedback is clear and either written down or told to me in a calm way. Feedback helps me fix mistakes and improve my work to get a better grade.

I want to get better at connecting what others say to my own thoughts. I’ll practice this by asking questions and summarizing what I hear during discussions. This will help me be a better communicator.

Core Competency Reflection

If I become sad, angry or frustrated, doing a math problem in this unit, I will plan to reset, restart and talk through the problem to help me be more productive or calm. I know that learning new math concepts can have both positive and negative consequences, so I am going to plan to adjust my actions to learning different ways of solving so that I’m not close minded and don’t get stuck on a question due to the way that I attempted to solve it. Although I am challenged by this specific unit(arrhythmic series and sequence), I plan to get through these challenges by doing practice questions until I am confident and by asking for help when i need it instead of trying to just figure it out.

I make an effort to include missing voices/ perspectives by making sure everyone gets a turn to speak and/or chose their role in the project as some people are shy and wont advocate for themselves.

If the group is not productive, we can …. in order to get things moving in the right direction. 

If the group is not productive, we can refocus and keep each other on track in order to get things moving in the right direction. This was especially useful because no one in the group took offense to it and we all did our part with no complaints.

I know that _________ (procrastination) can have both positive and negative consequences, including…. so I adjust my actions to… 

I intend on working towards not procrastinating my work until the last second. I will do this by finding strategies to remind myself to finishing my work early so that I don’t have to worry about it. This is especially important when I am away for lacrosse as i don’t know when time to complete school work will arise and I would be too tired to concentrate if i put it off until after.

Core Competency Reflection

“I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself”

I had initially turned in a project I knew was not good quality. I am proud of this project and I feel a sense of accomplishment now that it is completed to a higher standard.

“I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior”

I find completing assignments on time to be challenging. I put myself in a position where I had to take ownership of my mistakes and fix them.

“I can develop a body of creative work over time”

It took me a long time to create this body of work. It took longer than it should have. I have developed from the previous project I handed in.

“I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas”

Over this last week, I persevered to get this project done. I knew my parents were disappointed and i stayed up late to develop my ideas and finish the project.

I need to work on working with others to achieve a goal (my teachers, parents, and peers). This means keeping them in the loop on what is going on and moving forward with that together.
