Social Studies 10: Reflection

This semester, I completed an independent inquiry project about women’s rights. The most important parts of this project where probably how women didn’t have their right to be humans and be able to speak and have their own vote. But women’s, in the 1900s were a big help in the war as nurses and they also worked in factories, also took care of their kids and their husbands. I gathered this information by going through recourses and websites to find this information and have a better understanding. Here is some information I found interesting, if married, most women stayed at home to look after the children while their husband worked and brought in a weekly wage. Most working women were unmarried, and they were limited to roles in teaching, nursing, or domestic work. For most, the expectation was that they would get married and have children. That is just interesting news that I saw and that made me want to do my inquiry project on women’s right so I can learn more about it. This from the 1900s and till now is different because the world has changed, and women nowadays have more rights.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions, as demonstrated in my inquiry project because whatever I would write I would always have evidence and information explaining what it was about. I also had some judgements during the inquiry projects based on how people were treated. That made me think that why were people treated so differently. I respectfully advocate for my needs by arguing and showing my opinion in this inquiry project, and showing what is not right. There was a lot of information that I found in this inquiry project that wasn’t right and how women had to get married and when they were married, they were just owned by their husbands and must do everything that they said. I have valuable ideas to share about women’s rights and do so by showing the information in my inquiry project about how I feel about this and what is not right.

I can confidently interact and build relationships with other group members to further shared goals.

Photography has been a great way to learn about new things with the camera and to communicate with other people. I have built friendships and interacted with people I wouldn’t interact with outside of this class and made new friends in this class. For example, for the assignments in photography I would partner with Jen because we are friends and in assignments, we share our ideas, and we would share our ideas to other people to help us finish the assignment so that we could both reach our goals in this class and be successful. Throughout this photography class i have also interacted and partnered with other people so that I can build a relationship with them and that helps you get to know them much better. I have chosen this image because I like how it turned out and we worked as a group to get these assignments finished and handed in. This was one of my favorite assignments because it was fun to make the lighting, and it just makes it look cool.

I used personal and social to talk to my classmates or my teacher if i need help with my math homework and I also socialize with other classmates to help others out or give my advice on a math equation on how I would solve the equation. I have improved in math slowly, at first the start of the math semester I wasn’t doing very well, I wasn’t focused. But now that i realized that i have to take this class seriously and i have to get better in this class. I have been more focused and ever since I have been slowly improving and getting more better in math and have passed some of my quiz and test. I have also in the beginning struggled with trig even though everyone says its easy but everyone is different and learn in different ways.

Communication Relfection:

I used communicating to communicate with my classmates, so i could get some help or help somebody else. I also use communication to communicate with my teacher so that he could help me and help me get better in math. Communication in math is important because you learn from others and you could learn for yourself. Showing the teacher that i am listening and understanding what teacher is teaching is by watching him do the notes with us for our new lesson and also writing some notes down in my math book. I really understood how to do 6.1-6.6 because at first i didn’t understand it but after talking with my partner and we went over it together i started to understand how to do it.

Thinking Reflection

I started chapter 1 before we started it in class and i read through 1.1 section and went through all of the notes and example to understand the concept of 1.1 properly. I also got a little help from my friend that had finished the 1.1 already and i had asked her for help so that i could really understand the concept of it and so that i wouldnt have trouble with doing it when we have the quiz or test. Some goals that i have reached are passing my quiz slowly and my test and i am really proud of that because i put the time and effort into doing my work.

Chicken Tenders and Caesar Salad

Making and Sharing Reflection

We used the barbeque sauce when we were making the chicken tenders, we used it before adding the bread crumbs. The two purposes are the dip and the coating of the chicken tenders, and also for the flavor. Panko is a type of breadcrumb traditionally used in Japanese style cooking. It is made from the bread without the crust, it is crisper and lighter than regular bread crumbs.

Core Competency Reflection

While working in the kitchen, I help to build and extend understanding by helping others in my group. I helped my group members by helping them with the recipes and also while we were doing the food labs. If they did not understand or needed help I would always help them out.

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by listening to their ideas and opinion on the labs or when the teacher is talking they ask questions. During the labs if i am doing something wrong my group members would help me and tell me that it is wrong.

One Goal

One goal that I have is to improve on my cooking skills. For example is my knife skills and also cooking because sometimes i would have trouble on the labs because I didn’t know what to do so i just asked for help. I also would like to teach other people and help other people out if they need help in foods, because i usually don’t help out because nobody would need help. But next time i can help other people out that do need help.

This year I realized I learn best by using the app that Mrs. Olchowy gave us to use for one of our assignments. It helped me with more information because you just have to type in what you are looking for and it will give you the answer for it. That really helped me out and it gave me a better understanding on how to do it. I also learn best by using teams and edublog because it just helps you hand in your work, and teams helps you on how do the work.

I have heard this quote a lot, it is pretty common. I also learned this quote in socials because we have talked about racism and how some people treat people differently based on there skin tone. I have also experienced it and so has my family. It doesn’t feel good the way people treat you so that is a quote i feel like people should look at.

Core Competencies -Yearbook

I listen to other people’s thoughts and their opinions; this helps me understand and learn more about the yearbook. Some people give their ideas about how they want the pages to look and that helps me with my pages, so I know what to do. When I first started the yearbook, I didn’t know how to do my pages and what theme or designs to put on my page. But after looking at all the other pages, I understood how to do it. For example, here you can see my grade 9 girls volleyball page that I have done here, I made it simple by adding the group photos and Mrs. McDonough helped me with the words that Mr. Wilkinson has said about his team. That has made the page looked professional and organized. Others in the yearbook have some similar pages for their sports pages, so I just used their pages for example, and it helped me with my pages and how to organize them.

Is violence justified during a protest?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project 

It helped me with what to fight for the pros and cons, it also helped with the answers of what we could fight against.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI 

I put the words in my own words, and i also came up with some of my own information. Some of the information that I wasn’t sure of i just got the AI to help me out and then the rest of the information was off my brain.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not? 

I agreed with the position i had to argue with, because violence is not always the answer there are so many other ways to solve things or even protest things out.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in when i was rebuttling my side of the story, I also clearly explained my rebutle. My communication was pretty clear and understanding.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this, because in my explanation for the fights i wrote my supporting explanation for the project. I supported my writing with my rebutle and had some clear explanation.

a. It represents our monster and who are monster is. It also shows who he is and what his name is. I think that the font just went with the monster because it kind of looks like the font they used for the cover of the movie. The color of the font just went with the slide because the slides white. We chose the original Sulley picture because it goes with our presentation and it doesn’t have like extra things of his appearance.

b. Something I could change is maybe to make it more exciting to look at cause it just looks kind of boring, so I could have added some other pictures of him and talked more about him. Also writing who he is as a character. Something I could do is write who he is and his actions.

1. Some challenges I have faced are probably the project because it was kind of hard to write about the monster since I have forgot about the movie. So I had to go back and search up some of the things for the project we had to write. We also didn’t write many resources we just wrote google because we didn’t have much time to do it ourselves. But we managed to get it done. We overcame them by trying to put our effort into it and to pushing ourselves to do our best, well that is for me because I would try my best to.

2. I would definitely make it better. Adding some more information about the monster and who this monster is. I would write who he is and what he has done in the movie the Monster Inc. Most of our slides look very boring and not a proficiency level so maybe adding more information and pictures to make it stand out a little bit. For resources we just wrote google so we could have added more information from online and found things from online resources to help us out.

PHE 9 Reflection

My strengths are playing the games I like in PHE for example soccer or badminton because I’m good at it and I try my best in those to. But I also try my best in other activities and sports. I’m also good at playing ball hockey. I always try my best in all the sports we have done.

My stretches are probably trying more in sports or activities. Also something I could try more in is volleyball. Even though volleyball isn’t really my kind of sport I should at least try my best in it. Looking forward to my PHE classes I will try to participate.

Something I can do to improve in my stretches are probably to participate more. Also to try my best in every sport or activity we have done in PHE9.

Core Competency Reflection

I encourage others to share their voices and value diverse perspectives. When someone has an idea i encourage them to say it, because the last week of PHE9 we could do something fun. If someone wants to play dodgeball i tell them to go ask the teacher because maybe we do end up playing it.

I recognize my emotions and use strategies to manage them. when we were playing volleyball I wasn’t so great at it and I wasn’t really good at hitting the ball. But I kept trying my best and never gave up. I was learning at the same time on how to hit the volleyball or what the positions were in volleyball.

I am kind to others, and support others when they need it. When we were playing badminton sometimes the birdy would fall and we would miss it but I just kept encouraging me and my partner that we will hit it next time. I’m always kind to others and give other support by helping them out when they need it.

I participate in classroom or group activities that improve the class, school, or community. I could participate more in the activities or sports we have done in our PHE9. For example in volleyball I wasn’t so good at it and its my least favourite sport so maybe I could have participated more, and actually tried my best.
