My Career Life Presentation
Curricular Reflection
some of my career life goals are to graduate high school and go to UBC. I would like to pursue PhD in psychology and have as much experience and knowledge under my belt as possible. my goal overall is to make sure people struggling with mental health know that help is available, to make it widely accessible across everyone.
Core Competency Reflection
- “I can reflect on my thinking” throughout the duration of this project, I had to reflect on my own thinking frequently so I could better learn the information I was taking in. I can relate new knowledge to what I already knew, and apply it in new situations.
- “I work to inform myself about issues surrounding me” since this was a presentation about psychology, I had to look at statistics and better inform myself about the issues in peoples lives, and how people with the career I want to pursue would deal with these problems.
- “Imagine and work towards change in myself and in the world” I really wanted to choose a career that would truly make a change in peoples lives and helping people work through their mental health troubles would make me feel fulfilled.
- “I can tell what is important to me and I can explain my values” I get asked a lot about why I want to become a psychologist and if I would get tired hearing about peoples problems all day long. my answer is always the same, “healing people heals me.” I know that different people have different viewpoints and values, but when asked, I can always provide an answer.
one goal I have for myself going forward is to dive deeper then I already have into the causes and results of certain metal health issues so I know how to help the people around me who are struggling. my goal is to be that person people can go to, to make help attainable for everyone.
one statement I want to work towards is “I work to inform myself about the issues surrounding me.” our world is everchanging, constantly developing as we discover new things so I would like to be more informed about new psychological advancements and help being provided.
