My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

this year, being my first year in high-school, was scary at first but by making friends in each class I got myself comfortable and I enjoyed going to school everyday. since I work and feel the best when I work with people I know, I became more outgoing as the year went on and I’m excited to befriend new people next year. for every school year before high school, I had the goal of becoming more organized and finally this year, I believe I reached that goal.

My Useful Education Website

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/search?q=science%20&location=srp&type=manual

During science last semester, I needed some extra support and blogs and pages such as National Geographic helped me a lot. National Geographic helped me especially since I know it is a trusted site and they know what they are talking about. I would search up science and what I was looking for usually popped up.

My Useful Educational Video

Since sometimes I can’t pick up math topics quickly and I only have math tutoring once a week, so sometimes I have to take matters into my own hands and teach myself using YouTube videos. I use many different teacher accounts such as Math Antics, Mario’s Math Tutoring etc.

A Useful Educational Image

I chose this image because it actively showcases that knowledge is power and growth. in the photo, it illustrates that the book is the water growing your brain like a plant, and I think this is a really cool way to make it clear.

My Inspirational Quote

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new” -Albert Einstein

I chose this quote because I think about this quote every time I mess up and beat myself up over it. I think about it in many different contexts such as when I’m doing sports, school, and in everyday life.

Reflection Questions- Is violence justified during a revolution/protest?

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project?

by giving me multiple answers to my question and giving me links so I knew all the sources were credible.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own , rather than just a product of AI?

I didn’t copy and paste the words straight from the AI generated paragraphs, but I looked through the article that was linked and I put it in my own words.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? why or why not?

I agreed 50% before doing more research, but when I did more research on my position, I felt more confident in my answer and I agreed.

Core Competency Reflection

Thinking Core Competency:

During my debate, I engaged the thinking core competency by analyzing and evaluating the arguments presented, both for and against the topic. I gathered relevant information and structured my arguments to ensure impact. This process demonstrated my ability to think deeply about complex issues.

Communication Core Competency:

During the debate, I used communication skills by working closely with my partner and asking for help from the teacher when needed. I coordinated with my partner to align our arguments and strategies, and whenever we faced challenges, I communicated openly with my partner to find solutions and asked the teacher for clarification and advice to improve our approach.

Final Reflection

Throughout my time in this class, the one project we did that I am most proud of was the “movie” we made of our book. In the process of creating my PowerPoint “movie” based off the book “Caraval,” I actively engaged the thinking core competency. I analyzed the key themes, characters, and plot details of the book, making decisions on what elements to include along the way. Additionally, I employed creative thinking by exploring unique ways to present information, ensuring that my slides were not only information packed, but also visually engaging. This required me to make strategic choices about what iw as going to choose to add, highlighting the most important scenes of “Caraval.” Through this project, the thinking core competency helped me along the way, allowing me to show a deep understanding of the book while presenting it in a compelling and imaginative way.

A Spanish-Speaking Country

Argentina

Comparison To Serbia

Traditions in Argentina:

In Argentina there is a festival called the Cosquin Folk Festival which is one of the most important musical festivals in Argentina. The festival lasts 9 days and takes place at the end of January. This festival has music bands, dance groups, performances of folk music, folkloric dances and singing and dancing along the Cosquin river.

Traditions in Serbia:

Every Serbian family celebrates their saint once a year. While many other families commemorate several Saints, Saint Nikola is the most celebrated among Serbs. The family’s eldest male member visits the church early on Saint Day and brings bread, a candle, a wheat cake, and red wine for the priest to bless.

Sports in Argentina:

one of the most popular sports in Argentina is football (soccer). It was introduced to Argentina by British immigrants and since then the country’s national men’s team has gone on to win 3 world cups.

Sports in Serbia:

football (soccer) is the most popular sport in Serbia, despite the national team’s less remarkable performances compared to other team sports. One distinctive feature of Serbian soccer is the rivalry between Red Star and Partizan, the two biggest clubs.

Landmarks in Argentina:

The “Cathedral of La Plata” is a very famous landmark in Argentina. It is the 58th tallest church in the world and and it was dedicated to the immaculate conception.

Landmarks in Serbia:

a famous landmark in Serbia is “The Temple Of Saint Sava” and it is a orthodox church located in Belgrade. It is the largest church in Serbia and a very popular attraction among tourists due to its history and magnificence.

Argentinian art:

the latest genre of Argentine art have been: new figurativism, pop art, new surrealism, hyperrealism, systems art, new abstract art, kinetic art, and ephemeral art.

Serbian art:

Serbian art mainly features various saints that are showcased in many Serb households and Serb churches. the medieval art includes Byzantine art, preserved in architecture, frescos and icons of the many Serbian Orthodox monasteries.

Would I want to visit Argentina:

If I had the money to, I would love to hop onto a flight and visit the beauty of Argentina. doing this project really showed me what Argentina has to offer, and I would love to see it all. If I did travel there, I would be most excited for the delicious food and for some of the gorgeous landscapes.

Core Competency Reflection

From the collaboration section, I chose that I could take on responsibilities and roles; I do my share. I demonstrated this when I sectioned the topics like special landmarks, money, countries geography etc. and chose who is going to do what. Me and my partner took on the roles and did our parts very well to create our poster and presentation.

I can also recognize different points of view and disagree respectfully because I understand that different people can have different opinions. it is necessary to collaborate on a group project and see through other peoples eyes to make your project the best it can be.

I also find it very easy to be a part of a group because I love to collaborate on ideas in general. doesn’t matter if its on projects or just regular classwork activities, I love to be a part of it.

I am kind to others and help them when they need it, although I haven’t gotten a chance to demonstrate this in this specific class. I know from past experiences that if someone is being excluded and/or doesn’t have a group, I would gladly take them into mine.

Caraval: The Movie

Plot, Character, Setting and Mood

-Explain how you figured out what your Avatar would look like.

When I was reading the book, I imagined Scarlett as a “put together” girl, with long, thick dark hair, tan skin, and pretty looking. The book described her like this and it really put the imagine into my mind, so much so that it was like a movie in my head.

-How did you choose the plot points?

I chose my plot points by narrowing them down. Since a lot can happen in Caraval, I had to narrow down the plot points to the really important ones.

-Explain how you figured out the setting in your story. What information led you to choose the pictures you picked for your plot points?

Caraval changes settings a lot, but there was three main ones so far. The first one where Caraval started off was the isle of Trisdea, the next one was on the island where Caraval was taking place, but not yet inside Caraval. The last one is inside Caraval, since there are many different locations inside the game, I just made the entire setting Caraval.

-Explain what the word mood means and how/why you picked the song that you picked?

The mood of Caraval is unpredictable, action-filled and a little but creepy. Since Caraval is a game and sort of a circus, I felt the circus music was really fitting.

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I usually take a quick break before going back to work. if i feel really jumpy and unfocused, I would usually go on a quick walk around the complex or make myself some food to fill my stomach before refocusing my attention on the project.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in my “prediction” slide. I don’t know what will happen, but I pull evidence from other incidences in the book and use those to make a hypothesis.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when I was talking to a friend about the theme of the book since we’ve both read it and she told me it reminded her of another books she’s read, which is horror. I looked into the book and saw the similarities between that book and Caraval. I used her idea to help me with finding the theme, and music of my movie.
