English 11 Literary Paragraph

There are many examples found within the literature that illustrates the character of Mooch. Mooch is a persevering individual. To begin Mooch is resilient. After witnessing a terrible tragedy ” [he] still walks across the bridge everyday” showing how he won’t sucrose to the same tragedy as his friend. Even though Anna and Mooch both went through a lot of trauma, he walks across that bridge persevering through life. In addition, Mooch is strong. He went through a lot in his past at residential school when he was “put in the basement with the shadows” and he was kept from his family and home. The Shadows would torture him and do things that are unspeakable so for him to get out there alive shows how strong Mooch is. Finally Mooch is a remorseful person. As Floyd an Anna’s kid comes to visit and Mooch see’s Christine, he mistakes her for Anna “grabbing on to her arm, [he] won’t let go” just like he wishes he never let Anna go at the bridge. He feels guilt for not stopping her and Floyd’s daughter, who looks so much like Anna gave him a chance to do what he wishes he had done. To conclude, it is evident from the examples provided that Mooch is a determined individual, who pushes through all the hardship in his life.

Titration Lab

Titrations

A titration is the slow addition of a know solution and its concentration to a other solution with an unknown concentration. The titration allows you to slowly add the solution until you complete a reaction and helps you determine the concentration of the unknown solution. You add an indicator into your unknown solution which helps you know when your reaction is complete. In the lab we used the titration to determine the concentration of HCl by mixing in NaOH. The end point of a titration is when the reaction is complete which you can tell when the unknown solution with the indicator starts to change colours. The endpoint of the titration can be determined by the change of color, the indicator in the solution turns pink but to know its balanced you want to achieve a very faint light pink. For the lab me and my partner were able to achieve a faint light pink 3 of the 4 attempts. We found that our 1st attempt and 4th attempt agreed with each other by 0.1. We found our average volume oh NaOH used was 13.58ml+-0.2ml. We determined the HCL 0.00136M.

Core competency reflection

critical and reflective thinking

when doing this lab I used critical and reflective thinking. Doing titrations are very specific and it was critical to put the right amount of solution in order to get the reaction we wanted. I was critical as we added drops of the solution, taking our time between each drop and when we had a bad reaction we reflected on what we could have done better and applied it to our next trial.

Quadratic equations in vertex form

Summary of my Parabola’s

For the green parabola, my parent function y = x2is the basic function. It’s the function that’s axis of symmetry is 0, doesn’t open wide or very narrow, won’t shift left or right. For my purple parabola, its function f(x)= 8(x+2)2 +2 has the k value +2 which makes my parabola shift up. My a value 8 is (a>1) makes my parabola narrow. My function has a -2 for the h so it shifts to the left. For my black parabola f(x)= (x-3)2 -1, since my h is positive 3, my parabola shifts to the right. My k value -1 makes my vertex lower. For my red parabola f(x)= -1/3(x-1)2 has an a value of -1/3. the -1/3 makes my parabola open down and wider since (a<1). My h value of positive 1 shifts the parabola right and since my function has no k value it doesn’t more up or down. For my blue parabola f(x)= -2(x+2)2 +1, my a value -2 is making the parabola open down but also wider since (a<1) and the -2 as my h value shifts the parabola left. finally my k value +1 shifts the parabola up one.

Self Assessment

For the assignment I was able to show the same mathematical idea in multiple ways. I was able to put it into a graph to show a visualization as well as explain it through my writing. Some of the relevant mathematical terminology that I used was (a<1) and (a>1) which was a shorter way to say that my a value which controls how wide or narrow my parabola will be is greater or less than 1. I also referred to H which is the value that determines if my parabola is going to shift left or right. It’s also the x value of my vertex. The other letter I refer to is K, this is what moves my parabola up and down and is the y value of my vertex. I was able to get these definitions of my notes and examples and put them into my own words to try and make it clear. My formatting can help viewers understand my graph better. Since each explanation corresponds with a different parabola, I colour coded it so that the colour of the parabola is the same as the explanation.

I think our criminal justice system should be more rehabilitative. When someone commits a crime there tends to be a motive regarding the ones that go to jail, it might be revenge or money but that’s things that over time could be prevented. I think some criminals do deserve more severe punishments buts the system should be working on making it lower not adding to it with more punishment. Rehabilitation can lead to more people changing less crimes when they are released, sets an example for others.

I can analyze evidence to make judgments by going back to past information that has lined up with things that match the prompt. One thing I thought about is the Menendez brothers how they turned their life around in prison getting degrees and paint walls. When they were in there they set examples for others and will be able to walk society not easier but a bit more caught up.

My goals

This year things I will do to stay physically and mentally healthy is to eat well balanced meals get at least 1 hour of physical activity a day and to get 8 hours of sleep. I understand that some days I will have more work to do and I will learn to split my time evenly so that I can stay focused on giving myself me time.

This year I will respectfully advocate for my needs by speaking to my teachers and asking for help when I need help with challenging assignments or if I need more time to complete something. I will speak up for things that will help me improve myself as a student and person.

Active Health Unit

Artifact from unit

This artifact shows my daily tracker that I used to log how much sleep, physical activity, water, socials time and other things I get.

Reflection

In this unit I used critical reflective thinking in my artifact. When filling out my daily tracker for the few days I found myself reflecting on my lifestyle. I had to really be critical and get the details of how long I slept and what did I eat to keep my energy up. As I looked through my tracker I found that I excelled at getting lots of physical activity and it showed when I logged that I was getting extreme amount’s everyday. I found something I could improve spin was getting more water each day. I found I’m extremely dehydrated and the lack of water was extreme.

My learning

This project has taught me many things. It has allowed me to learn to get a deeper understanding of what I’m reading and make it more understandable with pictures. It has also allowed me to get more creative with how I tell a story less with words more with visuals. It made me think outside the box and expanded my creative software knowledge.

core competency reflection

When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I take a step back and try to focus on the things I know are certain and come back to the ideas I was unsure about.

Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are how to use certain software programs which gives me tools to create things I may not be able to by hand.

Self assessment

Core competency

I used my reflective thinking when doing this lab to help me get answers to questions I had and to determine whether things were acids and bases. I thought carefully using my resources and looked carefully at each outcome. When it came to the lithium testing I found that sometimes the paper was hard to tell the Color so I used my thinking based iffthe other outcomes to determine weather it was the Color I thought it was

CLE 10 Self Assessment

Core competency

I used the creative thinking competency to make this infographic. Some personal strategy I used to make this info graphic was deciding how I want to display the information I know I must include. I use blocking as a tool so I can use my creative side to add details like icons and photos. A time that it took a while to come up with an idea was when I was figuring out how to make my images and words work together since some of the photos seemed plain and didn’t say much about the information.
