I demonstrated cause and consequence in this piece by gathering information on both country’s. I assess the pros and cons of going to both country’s and made a judgement based of everything I had. I was then able to put this together and make It look visually appealing as well as understandable to the viewers.
Core Competencies Reflection
I used creative thinking to build my artifact. I knew it had to have minimal words so I worked on finding key points of information as well as big words I could turn into photos. I then created a colour scheme that worked best with the information and design I planned on. I decided to use a few icon to make it clear which place I was leaving and going to. I think that was finalizing piece.
a figurative image I chose was a picture of puzzle pieces. I chose that as a figurine picture on the slide of body and materials since when Frankenstein was creating the body, creating the correct formula and body parts together was like a puzzle. It was a bunch of testing the right place to make sure it worked and fit.
Core Competency Self-Assessment
How did you select images and words to create meaning? What this easy for you? Why or why not?
To choose the images and words I went through the most important categories that I wanted to address in my power point. I used my blue sheet to make a list of similarities and differences which then helped me start to plan my images. I think I chose the photos based of which slides I felt needed more emphasis like the body parts and birth. Using a figurative image in those slides made the meaning make more sense. I wouldn’t say this was easy because some things were hard to find symbolization for. It wasn’t a straight forward path but I got through it.
Something that went well this year was book club In English. Another thing that went well was my industrial revolution project in socials and drawing unit in art.
Areas to Improve
Goals
Planned action
Boost grade in socials
Ask for help when needed on homework and assignments
improve art
practice and use video guide to help with hard things
This year I learned that making mistakes are ok. I learned that it takes time to become successful at something like for me Math. When learning new things in Math it took a bit of time to understand what I was doing, but after I figured it out it became really easy. I also learned to make friends and work with other people. It taught me to work with others even though it was hard. I had to be patient with others and not get ahead of myself. This year also taught me how different school is and what a step up it was from middle school. I got to go to different classrooms and see different teachers for each subject. I got to have freedom at lunch and I enjoyed that. I also enjoyed having a late start to school. It gave me time to sleep longer.
I chose this website because I’ve used this with my work all year. It makes my life easier when citing work.
My Favourite Video
I chose this video because it was really helpful through my first semester. I used this video to get me through one of my math units and I went from getting 55% on my quiz to 94% on my unit test.
My Favourite Image
I chose that Image because it was the first book I read in English and it was really good. It resonates with me since it was such a good love story. Definitely not something that happens in real life but a nice fantasy.
My Favourite Quote
” How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” – Winnie the pooh
I chose this quote because in school you make friends and sometimes friends go to different schools and so this quote represent things that happen through my life. All my friends went to different school and it made it hard to say goodbye knowing they were all going.

· To figure out what my character looked like I looked back to details in the book. The book described basic features about my character and then I used my imagination to added the things I didn’t know
· To choose the plot points we looked at all the times our character appeared in the book. we looked at the quotes and chose based of significance.
· To figure out the setting of the story we looked back to the book. The book gave off details of its surrounding and time. The setting is very important because it allows the reader to get a better understanding of what’s going on. Time and place can affect the entire story.
· Mood means how the story feels. Mood is like how the story affects emotions. like is the story supposed to feel generally dark and sad. We chose a kind of mysterious and dark music since Edwin was always dealing with Cole and the island and it was a very dark feeling around that.
Core Competency Reflection
Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better are learning to add music to powerpoint as well as making the slides go faster and slower. I learned to use avatar maker.
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take a break. I give myself time away from what im doing and then when I’m ready go back and start back up again.
An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is
Something Im proud of in term 1 was this report for the industrial revolution invention project. It was a report plus presentation on a invention back in the industrial times and I did the Telephone.
(image attach soon as gotten)
curricular Competency reflection
That was a report I did that I am very proud of in socials. In this report I showed significance, cause and consequence, and evidence. As I wrote this report I went through the historical significance page like a check list and answered the questions in better detail then I have been doing most of this term. I then decided to go through the pros and cons of the invention that I was researching and found evidence to back up my claims. I did the causes and consequences that would lead to the pros and cons of the invention and because I had evidence it made my points stronger.
Core competency reflection
For the core competency I think I did some thinking. I could analyze evidence to make a judgement as well as reflect on my thinking. I used evidence make judgements or decisions in this project like when we looked at how we would advertise the invention, we hd to remember it was late 1800s and not modern society so priority was different. I could also for new ideas to create new things and build on others ideas to make thinks better. An example where I expanded on my creative knowledge was when we designed a prototype of the invention.
I can get new ideas or reinterpret others’ ideas in a novel way
Reflection
In the assignment we had to recreate a black and white photo. We had to learn how to correctly use our exposure to convey a message without color. We also had to use our understanding of the elements of art and principle of design to help tell the story. With this photo we had to reinterpret a girl studying. I had to come up with ways to have the scene be similar and also have the light come through at the right spot and amount. It was hard to do correctly and it took several tries in different locations to get the perfect photo. I used my peers idea to get a better idea of how to get good lighting that would match the photo. In the final photo you can see how we used lines and shapes as elements of art, we also used balance as principle of design. At the end we used each others ideas to edit in a few minor things we missed from the original photo and got a result we were both happy with.
I chose to do a 3 year non redeemable GIC which I thought was the most financially safest option. You earn a good amount of money which is a pro. The downside is that you can’t redeem the money until your 3 years are up. I think this is a good option because unlike stocks that can go down within minutes a GIC is a promised to make you money. This option is best for me because with my money, I like to be financially safe as much as possible. There is a very small risk with a GIC which I like.
over the past day I worked with O and K. I found working with them fun and difficult. I didn’t contribute much to the group mostly because I was gone for half of the lessons and they helped me more than I could help them. They helped me get caught up with what I missed and get me set up with excel.
core competency
I know my group is working well when I hear them sharing ideas and helping each other figure out their mistakes and fix them.
if there is a disagreement in the group I find it helpful to hear both sides and come to a compromise.
I show the others that I value there contributions by taking in everything they offer and saying thank you when they do help.
Going into math 9 was very different. It was a very different experience from what I did in grade 8. We have been learning through a faster pace which I do like. In math I struggled to remember to switch the signs in negative and positive equations. I think I knew what I was doing but my just didn’t move with my hands. I was a bit worried at the beginning of the year mostly cause at the start I was in a different math class that stressed me out too much but when I got to this class, I became relaxed. I don’t have anxiety for math, but I do get stressed if I don’t do as well as I think I should be. I strive to do well and so when I do below my expectations, I end up stressing myself up.
When I first got to class, I think I performed as I thought I should. I was a bit rusty because of the break but from what I remembered I am happy. I am proud of my review quiz, I did very well, and I am also proud that I am asking for help when I need it. I don’t usually need to much help, but I asked when I needed. 2 things I could improve on is staying a little more focused during class. Sometimes I get side tracked and go in my own world but then refocus. I also think my note taking could use a bit of work. For the next test I think that spending a bit more time practicing questions, like word problems would be good idea. I tend to struggle with word problems and so more practice on that would help me feel better prepared for the test.
I think my final grade would be an A, probably not the highest percentage of an A but a low A. I think that would be reasonable as I am a hard worker and I try hard to make sure I achieve my goals. I think studying more and asking for help more will me achieve an A. I want to do my best in math and so it’s important that I am always paying attention which I could do a bit more. I would hold myself accountable for a bad grade. I would be upset with myself and would want to redo everything again. If my plan isn’t working, I could tell cause my grades aren’t holding up with my expectation but if I do well, I think it’s because my grades are going up and I am feeling more confident. Usually, my friends help me hold myself accountable and I can stay on task because of them.
A digital footprint is data that is left behind every time you go online. There are 2 types of footprints, Passive and Active. Passive footprint is made when information is collected without the person knowing. An Active footprint is where the person knowingly shares information online through social media or websites. Now as we know digital footprints isn’t always secure. The internet gets bigger and bigger, and it becomes more and more important to be aware of what goes online. Even if you delete it, it’s still there. So why should you care about your digital footprint? Information travels quickly and it can be taken out of context. Even if you think it’s not there it is. What you do online can affect your future, sometimes in a good way but also can be bad. Now when getting a job, people will search you up and see what they can find. In some cases that can be the reason you don’t get the job. Some examples of unsafe activities online are posting unkind messages or pictures on social media or websites, cyberbullying, inappropriate messages to people over text or websites, and many other things. Fortunately, there are ways to be safer online and protect your digital footprint. One way is searching yourself up and it may seem weird but it’s a good way to see what online about you. Another way is if you see something misleading or inappropriate about you or someone else, ask the person who put it up to change it or take it down. Things spread fast and can lead to some unfortunate things. Lastly, think before you post or send. Once you send or post, it’s out there and it won’t be able to be taken down. What’s online is always online. And that’s a bit on your digital footprint and some online safety.
I used word art to create this.

Personal/ Social competency Reflection
My online support network is helpful to me because it helps me learn and extend my knowledge. It helps me create work that not only shows my understanding but also give information to others. Some strategies for maintain a balance online presence is limiting how much time I’m on my social media. Setting time to do other things that aren’t on my device are especially helpful. My values around achieving a good mark in school inform my decisions about how much time I spend online and what I do online such as school work or games.
