Economic Theory 12: Final Reflection

Semester Reflection

I gained a deeper knowledge of important ideas like supply and demand, market equilibrium, and the different viewpoints of different economists this semester in economic theory 12. My understanding of how various economic models may account for production costs, consumer behavior, and the role of government in markets has improved. Learning about the names and ideas of Marx, Hayek and Keynes and how it applies to the world we have shaped today was one of the most eye-opening experiences. I also gained the ability to evaluate actual economic problems critically, which made it easier for me to understand how abstract concepts might have real-world applications.

Economic Theory 12 Core Competency Reflection

#1: I respectfully advocate for my needs by clearly communicating my thoughts and asking for clarification when necessary, ensuring I understand all perspectives before responding. For example, in group discussions or when working on projects, I make sure to express my viewpoint or concerns while being open to feedback from others. I focus on maintaining a calm and respectful tone, even when there are disagreements, and I try to back up my position with logical reasoning or evidence to make my case stronger. This approach helps to foster productive conversations where everyone’s needs and ideas are considered.

#2: I remain open-minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I’m faced with making decisions or solving problems in general. For instance, when planning a project or task, I try to consider various strategies, even those I might not initially favor, because I know there could be advantages I haven’t thought of. I listen to feedback from others, especially when they bring different perspectives or experiences to the table, and I’m willing to adjust my approach if I see a better solution. Staying open-minded allows me to adapt to new information and be more flexible in my thinking, ultimately leading to better outcomes.

#3: I use evidence to make judgements or decisions, as demonstrated in my assignments and projects done this semester. I can research find opinions of people and judgements, and evidence to make my own judgement especially in the in class writes, and inquiry project.
