Career Project

Career Life Project Presentation

Curricular Reflection

My career-life goal is to graduate with good grades and get accepted into UBC to hopefully become a lawyer. I will focus on getting high grades in highschool to increase my chances of getting into UBC. During my undergrad degree, I would focus on doing my best and getting good grades. I want to focus on improving my writing and build strong communication skills but the main thing i want to focus on improving is getting comfortable with speaking in public and in front of others.

Core Competency Reflection

This is how I select images and words to create impact for different audiences: I find the right words and images that I want to use for that side and think to myself whether the stuff I’m putting on the slides is for me to read off of or for the audience. I do this until there are only text and images for the audience on the screen.

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include researching tons of information I want to use for that topic, I do this for all my subjects and when I’m done I go back and only take the relevant information I need for that specific task.

As an active listener, I notice that I make eye contact with the speaker to show that I am engaged and not distracted.

My support network is helpful to me because they provide honest feedback and help me see different perspectives on problems.

I can effectively communicate my thoughts and ideas clearly and confidently in different settings. I am working on this goal as strong communication skills are important for my future career path. To improve on this I will practice more by presenting to others.

Science 10 – Energy Bid Project

My Project

Core Competency Reflection

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I try to take a short break and take a walk outside if possible, and if I can’t go outside, I listen to upbeat music that gives me a reset and gets me back on track. These all help me by giving me a mental reset. When I lost my focus during the project, I would apply these methods to help me regain my focus and focus on my work.

I can describe how this project relates to my experience in grade 9 when I had to do a similar project about different kinds of energy. It was a group project as well and we split up the PowerPoint and each did our part while also supporting each other with theirs, similar to what I did during this group project.

one goal I have for myself is to do more research than needed when doing a project. If i were to be asked a question about the topic, I’m not sure i would be able to answer it on the spot and my goal is to work towards doing deeper research so i would be able to answer the question.

Food Studies Core Competency Self Assessment Term 2

My group chose to do a Smores cupcake for the cupcake competition. The outside resembles a Smore treat with graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. The cake and icing were vanilla, and chocolate chips were on the inside.

Communications CC

I believe I demonstrated communication in this lab. I showed this during the discussions when choosing what cupcake we wanted to do, I came across this cupcake and thought it would be nice to do so I suggested the idea with a detailed description so they would get the full picture. My partner and I communicated to see who does what and brings in what. During the process of making the cupcake, I actively listened and answered any questions. We both helped each other out with our tasks and both played a part when icing the cupcake. To share our cupcake, I made a display card with a picture and detailed description on the back, that was displayed when presenting our cupcakes. A skill I gained while making this cupcake is how to pipe the icing properly.

My First Year

Starting the new school year was more of a challenge than ever this year. Going into high school, I had to overcome my fears and challenges. Being in different classes, having new classmates, teachers and friends. I quickly realized I had nothing to worry about, it was all just a matter of time. I adjusted to the “high school life,” by keeping track of all my work and tests. This method worked extremely well for me as it put pressure on me to finish all my work and to study. Overall I learned that high school is not much different from middle school. Having good work habits will make all the difference in your experience with high school, having a good one will make your life 10 times easier.

https://www.perplexity.ai/

Perplexity.ai was an extremely helpful tool for me this year. This search engine saves countless minutes by giving you the best responses from multiple sources, giving you the sites from the websites that it searched to provide an answer, and being able to fact-check the responses. The website’s simplicity is arguably the best part, clicking the sites provided for even more information than stated is extremely easy, as it is neatly placed.

This video is very educational as it brings up two important topics, Mr.Bean jokingly demonstrates a common technique for falling asleep, counting sheep by counting the length and height then multiplying with a calculator, and getting the area. Mr bean shows that knowing the length and width of what you’re trying to get the area of is enough, just by multiplying the width by height. Counting sheep is a classing method used to help people relax and mentally distract themselves from their thoughts, making it easier to fall asleep. Doing the simple task of repetition distracts the mind from its worries and encourages relaxation.

I chose this image as it is an educational image on what not to do online and it was my first ADL project. It serves the importance of reminding people what unsafe activities can lead to. With a push of a button, you can destroy or damage your future. Always thinking before you post or share anything online is smart. What you post will stay online for the rest of your life, whether you delete it or not and this image is a reminder of that.

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt

I chose this quote because most times the fear we have over something is worse than the actual problem. This quote is a reminder that we need to stop letting fear control our lives.

Critical and Reflective Thinking

A method I improved on in this unit, rational numbers, is how to multiply/divide fractions. I had learned how to multiply and divide fractions before but my memory was foggy on the topic. To divide fractions you need to switch spots with the numerator and denominator on one of the fractions then multiply like normal between the 2 fractions. Multiplying is easy and all you have to do is multiply across. No need to change the denominators.

Test

The test didn’t have anything that surprised me, I just wish that I had more time for the test as I felt rushed to finish it towards the end. For the future, I hope to be better prepared for the time.
