Communication
1. Artifact
How to draw an orchid in the oriental brush?
2. Reflection
I can communicate for a purpose (Literally, I can, but I can not do it perfectly.), because I know what competency need to be a good speaker. There are a lot of required abilities to speak well like talking with clear voice, using appropriate words, and understanding (knowing) the audience’s knowledge.
And “video” is one of methods for communication. Because, it provides information and knowledge to viewers. So, the competencies to speak well also need to make a good education video. It means, I also need to have and follow those competencies for taking my video talking about how to draw an orchid in the oriental.
Therefor, in the start of my video, I explained the draft definition of “orchid”, because it is difficult to understand for students learning basic English knowledge. (So, I presumed that most students in my class don’t know what “orchid” is.) I also didn’t know the English word of 난(orchid in Korean) before I translated it, even when I asked my Korean friends, “Do you know 난?” Most of them answered, “No.”
During this project, I learned how to speak for audiences. Before that, I just read the script I wrote or said what I memorized like a robot in my presentation. Even I didn’t care if my audience understood it or not. However, I realized my attitude was wrong. So, from now on, I will check the speech again to see if there are any grammar or words that can be difficult for students to understand, and then I will stand in front of my class and make a presentation. It will enable me to communicate better with listeners.
