I can work with others to achieve a goal. One of the assignments we had to do was run the school store. We had to work with other people, and we had to think of a campaign before we ran the store for 2 weeks. I worked on the campaign with 2 of my classmates and together we came up with an idea we all liked. We worked on the school instagram to advertise and post about our campaign. Unfortunately, I ended up really sick so I couldn’t be there, but I was there for all the planning.
I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. My class had a Spanish class paragraph due, and we were supposed to write a paragraph explaining our last vacation. We were able to include components from all the units of Spanish that we learned. I took some things I learned from Spanish class to write a paragraph of the things I experienced on vacation. I made some mistakes and I’m able to learn from that and improve in my Spanish from the corrections I received.
I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. For the fetal pig dissection lab, my partner and I worked together to find all the organs needed to present to the teacher. We used different ways to find all the organs including diagrams, book, asking our peers, and mostly trial and error. There were lots of organs that were difficult to find because they were either small or hiding behind other organs. However, we were able to get through that together by finding different ways for the answer. The number of organs each partner found ended up getting split up because naturally one person would find an organ and the other partner would find another. As the time went by and we were feeling the pressure to check off the list of organs we needed to find, we got more eager to complete the list. Not only did we collaborate during the dissection, but we also collaborated by splitting up the amount of work each person did relating to the dissection. When we were getting supplies, one person would get the lab tools and the other would get the lab coats and gloves. We also did that during clean up. It was a team effort to finish everything quicker.
Creative Thinking
One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is doing the online tests my teacher posts on teams. For every test we have, there is a multiple-choice test posted online. This is helpful because it gives an idea of what kinds of questions is going to be on the test. It allows me to either see what I need to keep reviewing or lets me know that I understand a topic enough. The test online has more tests than the actual test we take, so I get a sense of being prepared for the multiple-choice section of the tests. I do pretty okay on the multiple-choice sections, so I know the online tests are helpful. However, I still need to work on my written response because that is the area I need to improve. I can do this by doing the study guide and asking for feedback during flex so I will know whether my responses are sufficient.
Towards the end of the book, it got harder to pay attention because many parts felt irrelevant and boring. There were plots that wasn’t well incorporated into the story and it felt thrown in there. There were times a character would show up suddenly then leave.
Core Competency Self-Assessment
I worked cooperatively with other members of my group and was willing to help with any task. When we were dividing roles for the presentation, we divided and conquered. We chose 2 roles that we figured we could do. For the meetings, I collaborated with my team, and we shared our thoughts.
I chose this to be my artifact because it was a trial run for my other project, and it turned out pretty good. It was the first time applying new skills so I wouldn’t mess up on the actual project.
Creative thinking
I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted to make in the beginning of the year. I searched for inspiration, and I found a something I liked that looked easy enough to make. I found a pattern I thought was similar, but I wanted to add additional elements such as sleeves for the second version. Because I made my own pattern for that, it didn’t end up being what I thought it would be, and I had to redo it. I also wanted to add a collar, but I cut it too short, so I had to measure and cut a new one. Those are just a few examples of my setbacks; however, I redid it because I had a vision in my head, and I wanted to follow through with it.
I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way. I was able to identify the perspectives and relate it to the song of choice. I also chose a psychological disorder to relate to the song. I used my knowledge from class to develop my thoughts and connect it to my song.
Creative thinking
I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. I was thinking of possible ideas/ perspectives to connect to my song of choice, it took a while to think of different ideas. Some setbacks I dealt with was my reading comprehension. Every time I read the assignment; I didn’t understand what I was supposed to do. Because I was confused for a little bit, I didn’t do the assignment right away.
In part 1, I compared the distribution of the first digit of TikTok likes to the expected distribution based on Benford’s law. In Benford’s law, smaller numbers appear more frequently as opposed to bigger numbers. I found that to be the case for me. I found that my most accurate/ similar data to Benford’s would be number 8, both of them having the same amount, 5%. I did however, round all my numbers so they aren’t super accurate. That being said, number 8 are still the most similar. Some numbers have a bigger difference, like the numbers 2,3, and 4. I think this is because the percentages for these numbers are projected to be bigger and because I took the data of 60 videos, there would be a greater distance between a smaller amount. If I had watched and recorded more numbers, that would bridge the gap between my numbers and Benford’s numbers.
I chose TikTok likes to find my data. I chose TikTok because it is an app that I constantly use, and I wanted to use something that I could better relate to rather than something random that I would never see or watch. Before I found out about Benford’s law, I didn’t know there was even such a thing of finding number frequencies. I was shocked to find out that it was a common enough pattern that someone noticed enough of it to create a law.
Benford’s law can be used to find discrepancies for things like accounting fraud. Benford’s law should generally apply to financial records because numbers are random and it’s substantial. Logs can be used for Beford’s law to be sure of approximate agreement with Benford’s law.
I can deliberately learn about things that interest me, and new ideas pop into my head. When I’m finishing my other projects, I can find inspiration from different places and think of how I can sew that. Sometimes when I can’t find inspiration or I think something is too difficult to make, I try to mix designs to create something within my sewing abilities.
Artifact
My artifact is a mock-up of my final copy design. This is related to my core competency reflection because this is something I thought of to make. I learned many new skills when I worked on this project. I learned to finish seams with binding, how to hem a shirt, add buttons and a buttonhole, etc.
I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, and I expect setbacks and failure, but use that to develop my ideas. I didn’t know how much had to be included in this assignment, and I didn’t know if I was going to have enough space on the monopoly board. I wrote on the board and hoped for the best. As I was writing, I had leftover space, so I kept rereading the notes package until the board was completely filled in.
Communicating
I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. We learned everything from the notes package then we were given the Monopoly assignment. The board represents my learning and my understandings. I would say the chance cards is an even better representation of what I learned in this unit because I had to make scenarios, and it came from me rather than copying something from the notes package and putting it straight on the board.
This year, I want to take on leadership roles. Some of my traits/ skills that make me a leader include my organization. I can manage my schedule and adjust as needed.
Second goal
Some of the things I plan to do to stay mentally and physically healthy include eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep. If I feel rushed in the mornings, I might go to school without eating breakfast as to not be late. If I wake up earlier, I won’t feel rushed and I can eat a healthy breakfast. Sometimes I sleep late because I stay up to do my homework. If I did my homework as soon as I got home, I could have more time at night and sleep earlier.
