My name is Tanisha and I am a grade 10 student at Centennial Secondary. I was born in Surrey, Canada, but moved from Surrey to Coquitlam about 8 years ago, to start attending school here. My ethnicity is Punjabi; I come from a family of very cultured people. I love my family, hanging out with my friends, and many other cool things. Some words to describe me are humorous, organized, nice, interpersonal, and intelligent.
My and my friend had recently created a restaurant skit as a customer and waitress. To begin with, we both worked together to create an english script, which we would then translate to French. From there on, we asked the teacher for advice on how to improve our scripts, and had soon started practicing them. We both took a lot of time to orally and physically practice our skits, and perfecting them. I believe that we both communicated and collaborated a lot on this skit, as well as being very creative with it (making it humorous). For a future skit, we would continue to use this set of steps in order to make another, well done skit.
“I can be kind to others, and support others when they need it” is a social awareness and responsibility statement which I demonstrated. My artifact is a good example because during the practice of this performance, I helped and supported my partner with the song that we were going to perform, as well as doing it in a kind manner. During the actual performance, I also supported others by cheering on for them. I can apply this core competency skill everyday in my life for many things, as it’s one of the better ways to be social with others.
In our social studies 9 class, we were learning about colonization, and events that took place during that time in the 1800’s. Then, we created a variety of board games, as a fun and educational project to finish off the unit. Me and my partner made a trivia board game that was called “Colonial Quest.”Our game consisted of a background history of the board game, instructions, and an educational experience as well. Our game related to this topic through success. During colonization, many people immigrated to British North America to achieve something, start a new life, or get freedom, as a sign of success. But to achieve that, they had to face obstacles and challenges. In contrast to that, our board game gives you the same experience as a person in British North America would’ve had. In our game, you start off with nothing. Along the way, you make choices by rolling the dice and answering the questions you chose. You got a punishment when you answered wrong, which was like the hard obstacles and challenges that people had to face, and the consequences of the choices they made. As you went further down on the board, you gained more knowledge of colonization, such as the significant leaders and reformers (Mackenzie, Papineau, Durham, etc.), the rebellions, immigration, slavery, the family compact, etc. When you reached the end of the board game, you officially earned success in colonization, which was the main motive for the game. Therefore, our game has a significance, because it provides anyone who plays it with a fun and educational experience about what life used to be like during colonization in the 1800’s.
Social Awareness and Responsibility
I find it easy to be part of a group – I find it easy to be part of a group because then I can communicate with others and create something with everyone’s piece of idea. We took my partners idea of the board game, and combined it with my idea of a trivia to make our overall project, Colonial Quest. For this project, I worked with a partner and we were able to create a big board game, which we did fairly well on. I also find it easy to be in a group because I can split the work with others evenly, and it makes the work process much lighter and easier. We both split the work of the trivia questions in half, while I did the history and she did the instructions, which made the workload easier.
Creative Thinking
I can develop a body of creative work over time– I created a board game that shows all the creative work I put into it. I created the game with a unique, simple design, with which it still looked good. My dice and wheel of unfortunate (punishment wheel) were colourful, which were done by hand, and I had chess pieces as the characters. My use of items from different board game was creative. Most importantly, the board game itself and trivia were the most creative parts of the overall project. The design of the board was good, even the questions were creative because they went specific and detailed. The relevance of the punishments to colonization was good. Overall, all the parts of the board game took a lot of mine and my partners creativity to make.
My name is Tanisha, and I am a grade 9 at Centennial. Words to describe me are creative, funny, humorous, quiet and talkative. Something that I enjoy doing a lot is traveling! Some countries and places that I’ve traveled to are the US, England, India, CN Tower, Niagara Falls, Lake Louis, and Whistler. I’ve enjoyed travelling a lot, especially during the summer. It was a new experience for me during this pandemic. Something else I enjoy doing is listening to music! I like listening to music, when I do everyday things in my life. Some of my favourite hobbies are drawing, cooking, and playing the flute. I have been playing the flute for about 2 or 3 years now for band in school, and it is something I enjoy, as a hobby. A goal I have for myself in the future is to be a good artist. To achieve that goal, I would have to set little goals that would help lead to my main goal, which can sometimes be hard for me to do.
My Favourite Image
I like doing zentangle art that is really complex but detailed! This picture perfectly describes what I mean! It has a lot of detail, and does not have colour, which is the way I would like to do it. This is why I am interested in doing zentangle art!
This website inspires me to draw so many things. It gives you lots of ideas of what to draw and tutorials for drawings, too. It has over 100 ideas! So, whenever I want to draw but don’t know what to draw, I can look into this website for some inspiration, which is why I am interested in it!
My Favourite Quote
You must tell yourself, “No matter how hard it is, or how hard it gets, I’m going to make it.”.
Les Browns
My Favourite Video
I chose this video because this person has really neat handwriting, and I like how her pens are organized in colour. It’s not much but I like this video since her writing is so neat, and I want my handwriting to be like hers.
