ES Acadamy Reflection

Curricular Competency Reflection

  • Q) How did you explore the diversity of Canadian Identities and perspectives?
    A) I was able to show that I know how to explore the diversity of Canadian Identities and perspectives in my Sketch Notes project. In this project I read “The Sea is at Our Gates” which is a book about the history of the Canadian Navy. After reading the book I interpreted the different views and events and put them into my own words. The project was meant to deepen our understanding of Canadian history, and it definitely did that to me.

  • Q) How have you begun planning for your career-life pathways? What skills in networking, job-seeking, and employment marketing have you developed?
    A) I have begun to plan for my career-life pathways by thinking about what things I like and what I would be happy doing. These things that I am thinking of are getting my driver’s license, becoming a rugby referee, and maybe working towards getting a piolet’s license. Some skills that I have developed are my resume and cover letter writing skills. I did that by working on mock job applications and interviews I hope to put them to use soon.

  • Q) Which physical activities did you engage in and enjoy the most this term?
    A) One physical activity I engaged in and enjoyed was our canoe trip to deep cove. In that trip we canoed to deep cove and spent some time in the town. I enjoyed watching the water rush beneath the canoe as we paddled onward and the smell of the salt in the air. At one point I did get my foot wet, but it was fine after it warmed up. Overall, it was a good experience.

  • Q) How have you grown in your leadership skills this term? When and where do you think you have demonstrated leadership the best?
    A) I have grown in leadership this year by socializing with my classmates and directing certain group projects. I think that the time that I showed my best leadership was when I helped my group create A map using compass bearings. The map was made by walking down a route and recording the steps we took and the direction we went in. This was one time I think that I took charge and showed my leadership.

  • Q) How did you develop and demonstrate your lab and field work skills?
    A) I was able to develop and demonstrate my lab and field work skills in the tidal adaption zone lab. In this lab we went to Belcarra and observed and recorded the different animals we found in the tidal zones. After we went back to school, we found out how their adaptions helped them to live in a constantly changing environment. This was one time that I felt that my lab and field work skills.

Core competencies

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is reflecting one what I learned or what I have done. This helps me to understand what was just taught to me and that helps me to use my time effectively to plan and think ahead of what I have to do. Some things that I think about are work that I have to complete or sometimes I will think about what I could do to improve something that I have been working on. Reflecting on what I have done or learned in my free time.

ENGLISH 9 EDUBLOG FINAL REFLECTION

My Book reflection (below)

Curricular Competencies Reflection

Comprehend and Connect In this project I furthered my reading skills and I learned that we affect who is around us and they affect us. First, I grew my reading skills as I read the book that I did this Promo on. The book was Six of Crows as you can see. The author did a good job of creating deep and complex characters and also allowed you to predict what they would do next by giving you accesses to all of the character’s views. Because of this I was able to make inferences and predictions throughout the whole book. My reading skills benefited from this because was able to test my ability to make inferences and predictions. I learned how we affect others around us, and they affect us by reading about the characters and seeing them do just that. During this project I furthered my reading skills and learned that we affect others around us, and they affect us.

Core Competencies Reflection (critical/Reflective thinking)

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I show this when I am reading my book and in my Book promo when I talk about making connections and inferences about what will happen and how people will react. In the Book Kaz (main character) is offered a job with a monumental reward; he has to choose his crew carefully so that the crew will work together well. After he gets them all onboard, he tells them that they will all split the reward evenly, this shows that Kaz chose people that he cared about; he could easily have said that he would get more that the others and I doubt that they would have questioned it. That was an example of my critical/Reflective thinking. I hope that shows that I can analyze evidence to make judgements well.

Reflection Questions- is violence justified during a revolution.

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project

AI helped me research the topic of my debate, I put in a question and then I looked at the information

and turned it into my own words. It also gave me the sources that it used to get its information so I could see if it was good.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI?

I simply looked at the facts it told me and put them into my own words. that was how I made sure it was my work and not the AI’s.

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not?

I did agree with my point in the debate. I agreed because if someone is making life worse for everyone in a big way, you have the right to fight back. If you stand up to people when they won’t listen to reason things will get better.

Core competency Reflection

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include asking the right questions and checking to see if the information is correct, I do that by making sure that the information is from a strong source and seeing if it makes sense. Along with that if I am unsure, I can always ask my partner for help.

One of the ways I ensure my group is clear on the common purpose is by asking them where they are at and checking on how well they are doing. I would also go and check their work so that I could see how well they were doing and if they needed help, thankfully my partner was doing good work so there was no problem.

Geography Town project

      Core CompetenciesGeography Town Project

For this project, you were to research and find a town you wanted to show so as to display why the physical, climatological and vegetative characteristics of the area the town exist and then explain how those characteristics support the economy of the town. You were given charts and maps, in your notes, on the three main characteristics of regions across Canada. You also had access to maps both in hard cover and on the internet. At various times, in the unit, you were put in groups to research a specific characteristic of a region and then re-join the whole class to present your findings. In your focus on the three main characteristics ( physical, climate, and vegetation ) you were to identify and explain two sub-examples of how money can be made from each of the three main ones. For example-Whistler is mountainous so it makes money from skiing. There are also rivers and lakes so it makes money from canoe rentals in the summer. You were then to put all this information into a maphub on your Edublog.

Having now done this, you will now examine the list of curricular competencies below. Then you will pick the three competencies you feel you learned and used most in your project and put a check mark in the corresponding circles:

I asked and responded to questions to be an active and supportive listener.

I worked with others in times of research, to achieve a goal.

Check, I inquired into and presented a topic of interest and related to my studies.

Check, I analyzed evidence from the research I did and made judgements.

Shape          I formed new ideas to create new things. I also built on the ideas of others.

check, I persevered with challenging tasks and took ownership of my goals, learning and behavior.

I considered more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

Shape            I learned and understand that learning is continuous and my identity will continue to evolve.

Check, I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the physical process that formed and shaped the area of the town I chose.

Shape       Check, I understood, identified and explained how those physical processes created economic opportunities either directly or indirectly.

I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the processes of climate ( rain, snowfall,

temperature and winds ) on the town I chose.

Shape          I understood, identified and explained how those climate characteristics created economic

            opportunities either directly or indirectly.

Shape           I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the vegetation that grows in the area of the Town I chose.

Check, I understood, identified and explained how those forms of vegetation created economic opportunities either directly or indirectly.

Shape            I learned how to put this into a power point map and explain it.
