Geography Town project

      Core CompetenciesGeography Town Project

For this project, you were to research and find a town you wanted to show so as to display why the physical, climatological and vegetative characteristics of the area the town exist and then explain how those characteristics support the economy of the town. You were given charts and maps, in your notes, on the three main characteristics of regions across Canada. You also had access to maps both in hard cover and on the internet. At various times, in the unit, you were put in groups to research a specific characteristic of a region and then re-join the whole class to present your findings. In your focus on the three main characteristics ( physical, climate, and vegetation ) you were to identify and explain two sub-examples of how money can be made from each of the three main ones. For example-Whistler is mountainous so it makes money from skiing. There are also rivers and lakes so it makes money from canoe rentals in the summer. You were then to put all this information into a maphub on your Edublog.

Having now done this, you will now examine the list of curricular competencies below. Then you will pick the three competencies you feel you learned and used most in your project and put a check mark in the corresponding circles:

I asked and responded to questions to be an active and supportive listener.

I worked with others in times of research, to achieve a goal.

Check, I inquired into and presented a topic of interest and related to my studies.

Check, I analyzed evidence from the research I did and made judgements.

Shape          I formed new ideas to create new things. I also built on the ideas of others.

check, I persevered with challenging tasks and took ownership of my goals, learning and behavior.

I considered more than one way to proceed in an investigation.

Shape            I learned and understand that learning is continuous and my identity will continue to evolve.

Check, I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the physical process that formed and shaped the area of the town I chose.

Shape       Check, I understood, identified and explained how those physical processes created economic opportunities either directly or indirectly.

I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the processes of climate ( rain, snowfall,

temperature and winds ) on the town I chose.

Shape          I understood, identified and explained how those climate characteristics created economic

            opportunities either directly or indirectly.

Shape           I understood, identified and explained the reasons for the vegetation that grows in the area of the Town I chose.

Check, I understood, identified and explained how those forms of vegetation created economic opportunities either directly or indirectly.

Shape            I learned how to put this into a power point map and explain it.

My First Year.

My Grade 9 Year.

  • During my grade 9 year I learned so much. This year I learned many things about the French language such as how to order food, ask how someone is doing, and many grammatical rules about what works and what does not. In addition, I enjoyed the final project of an exit interview answering questions in French that my teacher asked me. I enjoyed the many opportunity’s I was presented with during the school year such as the D and D club and Rugby team. One thing that I really liked about this year was the ES program. I was not in it this year but I did apply to do so next year, and I got in! That was a quick summary about my grad 9 year.

Cell song!!!

  • This year in science we started with biology. I found it hard to memorize all the parts of a cell, but with this song I enjoyed learning about the parts of a cell. I think it is detailed in the basic functions of a cell. In the end this is most definitely a song I recommend for all people trying to learn about the cell.

Desmos

Desmos | Scientific Calculator

  • This link leads to a great online calculator recommended to me by my math teacher. I found it helpful because I could do formulas, exponents, and check my answers as fast as I could type. I think it is a good thing because I knew it was reliable and fast.

Educational Picture

  • This photo may not be what most people think when told to find an educational photo. For me I think it is a very educational photo because when I saw this I thought “I wonder what I can learn from this program?”. This is the photo that made aply to ES in the first place and will indeed change my grade 10 year by a lot.

Inspirational quote

  • I like this quote because it represents the way hard work feels. What I mean is that you work hard and people may not see anything special. hard work often ends up being overlooked, but it always pays off.

French 9 Reflection.

Core competencies: Thinking/personal social.

When I came in to this class I was exited to learn but nervous about whether or not I could do well. I started to learn and found it new and interesting, I am proud of the work I did and the stuff I learned. Now I am writing this before my exit interview nervous about presenting and whether or not I will do well. I know that I will look back and think “That wasn’t to hard!”. I know this because I have learned lots of French in a short time and I had a great teacher. Thank you, Ms. Toure.

This is my French family tree.( there is another page with sentences on it) It is one of the projects I had to do for French 9. I am proud of it because I worked hard and I like the way my sentences turned out. If I had to do it again one thing I would do is ask for advice on how to make my sentences better and easier to understand. I had to think and craft my sentences, make connections and prepare the picture you see now, I f that does not show I was thinking I am not sure what will. I can see that I need to work on my presentation skills because when I got up to present I was really freeked out. That is all folks good by!

Core Competency Self-Assessment Science 9

Thinking

Artifact

This is my lab write up for science biology. I am proud of it because it shows that I was able to think make connections and record the data in a proper manor. As well as being neat and clean it shows that I can connect to other theory’s and that I can think back and find things I may have done wrong. In the end I think it was a good lab report despite the things I would have liked to do better on (like representing the data in a clearer way)

Scale Factor Project Reflection

scale Project Edublog Post

Core Competency Reflection

I show Others that I value their contributions by listening to what they say and giving their suggestion a try, If I don’t think it works, I will try to compromise and combine all the ideas we have. I show that I value others feedback by accepting it and trying it out, then we talk about it to see if there is a better way than what we both think. I know the group is working well when we are bouncing ideas off each other and trying to find a way that we both like and think works. One of my goals is to improve my communication, for me I can easily talk and communicate with my friends but when it comes to trying to talk to people I don’t know well I have trouble telling them what I think would work.
