Curricular Response – Kinematics in 2D and Dynamics
Kinematics in 2D showed us how to calculate the movement of things using various formulas, such as Vf = Vi + at, using velocity, time, displacement, acceleration etc. Although, in Dynamics we incorporated multiple new factors that have an effect on the objects in the real world including force, mass, gravity, friction, air resistance. This shows up in multiple different formulas that incorporate these variables such as F=ma, fg = mg, and in elevator questions, the use of the direction the elevator is accelerating in changes the entire apparent weight of whom ever is in it.
Core Competency Reflecting and Assessing
I answered the above question by taking note of what we covered in the 2 units, and because I knew the multiple formulas taught to us, I was able to denote that the new variables added effected the previous topic of kinematics.
Yes, seeing these connections make me confident that it is possible to understand that physics is all around us, whether we notice it or not. Furthermore, I do think that learning physics allows us to think of the truth from a scientific perspective, calculating the unknown.
Our task was to find the concentration of the acid using the method known as “titration”. Me and my partner worked together on this lab assignment. We split the tasks up as to maximize efficiency, by having one person in charge with setting up the pipet, beakers etc. and the other to clean and set up the burette and apparatus, we were able to start quickly and have a lot of time to use. Even though we had many errors and the assignment took far too many trials, we persevered to complete the lab, and bounced ideas and information off each other. I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group
This lab was set up to have multiple trials, for 2 of the trials i took on the role of dispersing the proper amount of base into the acid filled Erlenmeyer flask. I took notice of the errors that occurred in the earlier trials, and did half drops with patience as to reach the equivalence point. After succeeding in doing this, and recording information, I also took on the responsibility of cleaning half of the equipment, whilst my partner cleaned the rest, taking on a role in the group allowed for organized and efficient work. I can analyze evidence to make judgements.
I was able to analyze the color of the acid that the indicator showed, and was able to determine whether or not my partner and I had reached the equivalence point. By half dropping we were able to ensure we got as close as possible. I also analyzed that, using the average volume we had left of base, I was able to calculate the concentration of the unknown acid solution.
I can identify risks and appreciate benefits associated with personal and public digital footprints. When making this project I was able to research and learn about what benefits can come from posting on social media to show who I am. Through these fake Instagram posts I shared about my passion for art, and my drive to learn new things and ways of displaying my talents. Along with the benefits we learned about the risks that could come from posting online, such as rejection from schools, becoming unemployable, and creating a false and negative view of yourself and/or others. We practiced creating positive posts that don’t risk privacy, and aren’t seen as negative in any way. My post above is an example of a Instagram post which is safe from risk, but paints me in a good light.
Core Competency Reflection
I can identify my strengths and identify my potential. I chose this because I demonstrated my strength in arts, through this post I have shown my potential as I was new to this medium of creating and I feel as though I am already proficient in it. I can develop a body of creative work over time. I chose this because my social media post shows that if I am given time I can create a body of creative work. I created this poster in a short time span after just learning how to use photoshop.
I can tell what is important to me and I can explain my values. I chose this because I feel my posts (not just this post) show how much I value my time being productive. That I value the outside world and time with friends and family and fitness, this is shown in my reels and Instagram stories.
I can understand that learning is continuous and my identity will continue to evolve. I know that when posting my identity will change and I may start to disagree with previous posts. Being aware of this will allow me to think carefully about what I am posting.
Goal I can identify my strengths and identify my potential. I hope to work towards improving this as I still struggle seeing my potential in other aspects of life. I tend to limit myself to what is comfortable unless pushed.
This year I have learned and grown, physically and mentally. In the beginning of the year I had less care for school than I should have, but eventually I learned to really love working hard and so I tried my hardest in everything I did. This year I have been focused on learning and working more than any other school year. Some of the most important things I have learned was not just simple grade 9 material, but quotes and speeches from certain teachers. I have learned to persevere and pick delayed gratification over instant pleasure from the book,” The Odyssey ” in Mr. Cook’s English 9 course. I have learned to never give up, and the importance of caring for others from Mr. Ryzuki’s PE course and speeches, along with is analogy of School being a buffet, every piece of learning is there, it’s just your choice to take it. This year I overcame a lot of my academic bad habits like procrastinating about school work and studying, through learning discipline and focus. I realized the ways I learned were ineffective, meaning I had to find my real way of learning, which to me was listening to audible lectures and taking many practice worksheets. I’m proud of how much I have grown in a short year, but I will grow even more.
My Favorite Website
https://www.canva.com/ In this year of learning I have found the need to create many designs for posters and assignments. I found Canva, which is a very user friendly, but nice looking way of creating posters and presentations. It helped me in making my digital footprint assignment, along with my English ADL movie project.
My Favorite Video
This video helped my learning in school, specifically preparing for my social studies 9 class, and the unit on the development of North America. For this test I found myself in a time crunch for the first time since last year, no matter how much quizlets, and blurting I did the information would not stick with me. But I found this channel which simplified events in history. Although their channel is called oversimplified, I found the video to go very into depth on a lot of information. After watching this video, I’ve recently realized listening/ watching videos before tests has improved my performance.
My Favorite Image
This photo was taken after school ended. As I had stayed at the gym 2 hours past the school hours. I realized this photo looked very nice and showed my dedication to the gym and school.

SucceededCalculations Goal = 120,000 & above 3 year GIC 80,000 x 1.042 = 83,360 83,360 x 1.042 = 86,861.12 86,861.12 x 1.042 = 90,509.29
1 Year GIC for one year of savings 10,000 x 1.035 = 10350
Adding all 3 years worth of savings together 10,350 + 10,000 + 10,000 = 30,530 30,350 + 90,509.29 =120,859.29
Final Amount =120,859.29
Used EXCEL
Failed Calculations( GIC 3 Year done incorrectly ) 80,000 x 1,042 = 83,360 83,360 + 10,000 = 93,360 93,360 x 1.042 = 97,281.12 97,281.12 + 10,000 = 107,281.12 107,281.12 x 1.042 = 111, 786.93 111, 786.93 + 10,000 = 121,286.93
does not work because you can not add 10,000 into a GIC each year if it is a 3 year plan, as it is non renewable.
Another possible Solution 40,000 x 1.075 = 43,000 43,000 + 10,000 = 53,000 53,000 x 1.075 = 56,975 56,975 +10,000 = 66,975 66,975 x 1.075 = 71,998.125 71,998.125 + 10,000 = 81, 998.125
40,000 x 1.035 = 41,200
41,200 + 81,998.125 = 123,198.125
Justification for our solution (Strengths and Weaknesses)
Strengths
Weaknesses
Risk free (Guaranteed payback)
Low risk = low reward (Less money than you can make with ex. Stocks
Higher interest rate than a regular savings account
Only 800$ extra
Non-redeemable (cannot take money out & cannot add money)
strengths % weaknesses 2/3
This solution was one of the best possible for my risk tolerance, as when I took the survey I had a low risk percent. Although it does not have many strengths, it trades this off for a guaranteed chance to make enough money for the house. For many other people they may find confidence to invest into stocks for a high risk, high reward.
Group Reflection (Collaboration questions)
Working with my group was easy, as I already knew one of the members quite well, and I found it easy to connect with and support my other group member. I contributed ideas to the group, how stocks rates averaged, I also would do calculations alongside my group members to speed up the process. My other group members also did the same, supporting and collaborating, sharing ideas. I ended up using the final solution we all came up with, after going through 3 other ideas we settled on a 3 year GIC + a 1 year GIC in savings. I think my ability to collaborate in this project is a 4/4.
Core Competency Reflection
“If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to” try every idea that the group comes up with. Whenever the group would disagree about different interest rates or different solutions I found it very important to listen closely to each idea. Along with trying out every solution or idea.
I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I do this by helping out in each area I can in the work while also focusing on one thing. For this project I focused on creating calculations along side my group members to brainstorm solutions for each question. Than proceeding to share.
I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I formed ideas through thinking of new solutions and creative ways to get 15% of 800,000. I also built on others ideas like using a 3 year GIC, than adding on to it by using someone else’s idea but advanced such as putting some savings money into stocks for a year.
I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I could ask the teacher and helpers questions if I was unsure. I listened to my group members ideas and I listened to the teachers instructions. Through listening I was able to deepen my understanding of this course, that I knew nothing of beforehand.
I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share, this is shown in my El Salvador country presentation project. The project I will be writing about was a partnered project, meaning we both had to do our share of the work. I split the writing, taking on less but larger paragraphs, working on the poster board and photos instead.
Comparison to my home country
The Philippines has many similarities to El Salvador. As the Philippines was heavily influenced by Spanish culture they share religion, both countries being Catholic and Christian. One of El Salvador’s most famous athletes is a boxer named Carlos Famoso Hernandez, the Philippines most famous athlete is also a boxer named Manny Pacquiao. The amount of volcanoes is similar to the Philippines with common volcanic eruptions, the climate in El Salvador varies depending on height within the region, but both are hot almost all year round. The most famous sport in El Salvador is football, even having a war that was resolved by it, the Philippines most popular sport is Basketball, as they have their own PBA (Philippine basketball association). I would like to visit this country if given the chance, although these two countries are not similar, I would still like to learn about other cultures and traditions.
Core Competency Reflection
I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I took on many parts of this project, mainly the poster making, working to complete the board during my breaks. I also split the work with my partner allowing for both of us to work efficiently. I can persevere over time to develop my ideas, I expect setbacks and failure, but use them to develop my ideas. Before working on the poster I had many scrapped drafts, however, with each rough draft came new ideas for the design. Without these setbacks I would not have a neatly organized presentation. I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take pride in my work and myself. I advocate for myself. After finishing this project I felt accomplished, enough that I could use it as my main reflection for this whole semester of learning. I also can understand how much work I’ve put in and to know when I’ve done enough. I get new ideas to create things, I can also build on the ideas of others. I had many different ideas for scripts and for the designs, but I would always write them down incase I felt the need to return to them. I also built off my partners ideas for the scripts and designs. Moving forward my main goal is to focus on time management, not starting too late on projects and assignments I know about in advance. To do this, I will set reminders and focus on work before spending time doing things that don’t have as much importance.

Personal/Social Competency Reflection
I have learnt to adjust my actions to make a more positive impact online. By thinking carefully about what I say and post, helps me be wary of the future. Adjusting my habits to know how to respond to things online, and how to react to things I see and research using the internet. Knowing that there are positive and negative consequences lets me be confident in my presence online. Being online allows me to keep in contact with many people. I maintain these online relationships through contact via texting or calling. I utilize this ability to ask questions about school, keep in touch with friends, and plan hangouts. These helps keep healthy relationships online and in person. I have many goals for my work online, short and long term. I seek to keep a system of learning how to work and improve my writing and typing skills. To learn how to use Edu blog more efficiently by the end of the year. My plans to achieve them is learning off online articles, teachers, and peers. As expressed, I have learnt a great amount of information online, and have reflected on it.
An example of something I have spent a long time learning about is my skills in art. For the past years I have really started to learn and practice are techniques from other people. Since than I have greatly improved in many skills such as anatomy, line art, and the effort I exert onto my work. The sketches and practice pages I have started and recently completed show what I have learned. I spent a long time learning different forms of art, transitioning from comic book art to realism, and spending more time improving as shown in the drawings below.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus I will always turn to music. Music never was a big part of my life, until last year, where I was exposed to artists such as MF DOOM, Tyler the Creator, and more. Since than, I have found that music will never fail to boost my mood during rough times, and music has increased my focus on work and other tasks. This year I have been exposed to even more artists such as Frank Ocean, Odd Future, Kanye West, and more that I could talk about. Songs such as I Wonder and N95 have motivated me, songs by Frank Ocean have helped me through difficult projects, and other songs have inspired me and my creativity, opening up a world of art.
I make an effort to include missing voices/ perspectives by being an active participant in group projects. Actively listening helps me view the situation or work of other peoples perspective, making an effort by asking questions and for their opinions. Putting in the effort to give everyone an equal opportunity to talk during group discussions.
