My Parabola

My equation and Parent function

Graph

Significance of “A”, “H” and “K” in my question

In my parabola that I was given my “a” value was 1 over 3, that means that the graph will go wider and wider. The “A” value has a significant role on how to graph, it will show if the graph should be going wide or narrow. It also tells if it will be going down or up, positive will mean its going upwards in a “U” like shape, and if it is negative it will mean its going down in a “U” like shape. The “H” value in my parabola is +1. The “H” value shows where the vertex is on the X-axis, since my “H” was +1 it moves to the negative side. The “H” value will show the horizontal shift on a graph. The “K” value in my parabola is -3 that means my parabola will start at -3 on the y-axis. The “K” will control the vertical shift on a graph. The difference between my parabola and the parent function is that the vertex for the parent function is on the 0,0 vertex, and it is skinnier then mine. The only things that are the same is that the both go upwards and wider which tells me it has a positive A value.

Self-Assesment

  1. During this assignment I went back into our class notes for each part to make sure I was right throughout the whole thing. I also used demos the whole time by checking the points on the graph.
  2. Throughout this assignment I used multiple mathematical words like “Parabola” which is like an equation of a curve. Other words I used were x-axis and y -axis those meant that it will be on the horizontal shift which is “X” or the vertical shift which is “Y”. I also used vertex which is where the graph will start. I also used letters like “A”, “H” and “K” which will all show different changes throughout the question
  3. To keep this assignment clear I had big titles bolded to show what each section of my thing was about. I also kept my pictures big so you keep see what they are fully showing. Desmos also helped me out so I didn’t have to graph it myself, desmos keeps it more clean and less messy.
