Reflecting on My First Year

My Grade 9 Year

What was my grade 9 year like? It was interesting to say the least, i learned lots about how the indigenous peoples live, their experiences, etc. Along with learning lots i also had lots of great experiences most notably in my P.E. class, i had fun playing volleyball, doing weight training, playing basketball, and so forth. I also learned that you do kind of need to study for tests now, previously in middle school i wouldn’t need to have studied.

My Useful educational website

By far my favorite source of information is Britannica it has helped me the most out of all educational websites/sources. It was most useful in Social Studies class when having to research different topics, and ideas related to history.

This video was shown during Social Studies and i think it was one of the best videos or representations of how Canada came to be, it highlights important people, topics, and ideas. Along with i pretty good idea of what it was like back then.

This image below is a chart showing the numbers 1-25 squared, during my math class this was very useful to refer back to when dealing with questions related to squared numbers, and so forth

My inspirational Quote

I found this quote back in grade 7 and it kind of stuck as just so good, i don’t know how to put it into words, but it stuck, i think it refers to the idea that when you see stuff happening in the world like, “oh that politician sucks”, or “those people are dying” you get the point, rather than sitting there he is saying be the change, go help those people who are starving or maybe donate to a non-profit, etc.

a. How does this slide represent some of the design considerations you were asked to use in the making of this presentation? For example- font, images, text density, color?

Well, we were asked to provide a picture of our monster along with description of their physical characteristics. In the picture provided above, you can see a picture of the monster, arrows, and descriptions connected to those arrows. The white text makes it pop more giving it more detail.

b. Is there anything you could change about this slide to improve it so that it did display more of the design considerations you were asked to use in the making of this presentation? For example- font, images, text density, color? And if you changed something, what would it be?

To be honest, i think this slide in particular is sufficient in what we were asked to do, however if i had to change one thing about it i would add more detail as to the physical descriptions of the Minotaur.

As this assignment was in some ways different from a “typical” assignment for English class, discuss what challenges you faced completing the assignment and how you overcame them.

During this assignment, many challenges of varying difficulty came up, the most prominent being; keeping the descriptions simple, we were asked to keep the descriptions simple, i.e. Less than five lines, each line maximum of 5 words, i feel this was the most challenging part, and i had to bend the rules a bit.

Is Violence justified in a Revolution?

Reflection Questions

A) How did the use of AI assist you in developing this project 

The use of AI was a large sum of what made our project work. We could use AI to find information about our topic with citation to where the AI got the information from. Allowing us to verify what sources we should pull from.

B) How did you ensure that the work you created was still your own, rather than just a product of the AI 

Rather than copying exactly what the AI generated I went straight to the actual source to try and pull bits and piece’s of my own to form an argument

C) Did you agree with the position you had to argue? Why or why not? 

Well, i don’t think its just that simple. I was fighting on the Pro side of is violence justified in a revolution. Meaning i had to find data that suggests that violence has actually helped in a revolution. I can’t say i disagree or agree to be honest.

My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include… 

Using the perplexity ai tool we were given i could find the data i needed to with relative ease along with it citing its sources, made it easy to find work.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this… 

before putting in the information i checked the sources to see if they were possibly outdated or inaccurate.

Persuasion Project Unit Reflection

Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

So you are able to understand who you are buying from, i.e., sketchers for my advertisement..

· Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional

The one that persuades me the most is logical persuasion, when advertisements project statistics and data it makes me feel more inclined to click on it, etc.

· Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

I think one of the most effective is “Special Offer” to put it simple, when you have a product that is let’s say 40% off, it makes it feel more urgent, important, like “If I don’t get this now it’s going to go back up in price.” or its a “Limited Time” product again, making it seem like you could be 1/100 to own this, or something like that.

This is how I selected images and words to create impact for my planned audience:

Before creating my advertisement i took a moment to look online at what some of the big franchises do to make their advertisements pop, glow, drag you in. Based off some of my own ideas, and what these big companies have done i came up with my advertisement.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is…

Well, i did this project solo, but i did take some ideas from bigger companies, i.e., McDonalds, Colgate, Sony, and especially Apple. Using some of their ideas, i was able to build my own advertisement.
