Budgeting for a Special Day

I’m preparing a special day for my dad and spending my $300 dollars for. It will be during winter break where we enjoy skiing either in Seymour or cypress where we usually buy season tickets early on so we can freely ski whenever we want. Where he taught he how to ski in the first place which is why it is special for me and made many memories with him.

6:30 AM – Wake up and get ready for a full day of skiing and quality time.

6:50 AM – Head out to grab breakfast and shop for things

7:10 AM – Eat breakfast at McDonald’s

7:40 AM – Finish up and drive to Seymour Mountain

8:30 AM – Arrive at the ski lodge. Since we already have gear and season passes, we head straight to the slopes.

9:00 AM – Start skiing, Enjoy the mountain together, trying different runs and stopping for some pictures.

1:00 PM – Break for lunch at the lodge: grab a hot meal like burgers, fries, and drinks.

2:00 PM – Back to skiing for the afternoon.

4:30 PM – Finish skiing, pack up, and head out.

5:00 PM – Stop by the supermarket to pick up movie night snacks: candy, popcorn, and drinks.

5:45 PM – Eat out at Coquitlam Grill and buy a gift card

6:40 PM – Gifts bought at Canadian Tire

6:40 PM – Arrive home, get comfy, and set up for a movie night with dad’s favorite movies.

8:50 PM – Finish the movie and wind down the night.

I managed to spend $295.08 almost passing the budget with $4.92 to spare. In percentage it is 98.03% nearly reaching 100 but 1.97% to spare thankfully.

If my budget was to be 100 dollars only, I would have cut off the movie only choosing from my Netflix account and especially choosing cheaper options like the Mcvalue meal from McDonald’s but the lodge lunch will have to do since it is the closest restaurant there is and it is quite expensive. Especially taking the gourmet things off buying the hot chocolate from the cafeteria instead and choosing smaller meals or shareables for the Coquitlam Grill.

If the Budget was to be $500, I would buy a lot more snacks for the movie night with luxurious chocolates or gift packages which rack up to 70 dollars. Or going to an actual theatre to watch the movie night since it pretty much is the expensive option. Lastly, a bigger gift should be bought with the money like an expensive watch or perfume he can use often.

I chose my Dad because he is a lot more active an free in plans like this and since skiing and going out is his favorite, I figured that it is the best option to choose him. I believe my Mom helped me grow up and take care of me which is hard work but my Dad shown me the fun parts of the world like skiing or restaurants which were some nice memories I would like to revive.

The way I spent my budget can seem a bit tight since I am not the biggest spender around but If I were to, I usually buy higher end stuff and go big on gift cards which is just a reliable and simple gift I usually choose. My values influenced my decisions by putting the main stuff into the lower priority and dumped more money more on the before and after decisions which I figured to be the better way in my opinion.
