My Artifact: Strawberry DNA Lab
I can be kind to others, and support others when they need it. During the strawberry DNA lab, I demonstrated this core competency of being kind and supporting others when they need it. I worked closely with my partner to complete each step of the lab carefully and successfully. From the very start, I made sure we both read and understood the instructions, and I was patient when my partner had questions or needed extra support. I helped explain some of the steps, such as when we had to mash the strawberries, I made sure we took turns so that we both got to experience this and get to be involved in every part of the process. When something did not go quite well, like when we were not sure if we had to mash the strawberries until it was fully liquid. But we continued to stay positive and calm. I encouraged my partner not to stress, and we figured it out together by reviewing the instructions and asking the teacher for some clarification. I also made sure to listen to their suggestions, and I appreciated their opinion, which made our collaboration feel balanced and respectful. By being kind and supportive, I helped create a positive environment where we could both learn and participate in this fun lab. This experience showed me how important it is to communicate clearly, be patient, and treat others with respect, especially during group work. Working with my partner reminded me that when we support each other, we can quickly solve problems more easily and enjoy the process of learning together and making mistakes together to grow. Although our teamwork was mostly great, there are a few areas we could improve on. One thing I noticed was that we typically rushed though certain steps to get to another one. We did not double check the instructions, which led to a bit of confusion, especially when we were measuring how much strawberry we must put in the test tubes. In the future, we could slow down and take a bit more time to carefully read each step after the other. Reflecting on these things will helps us do significantly better in future labs and continue to grow as a supportive and effective lab partner.
