In this review update of Pre-Calculus Chapter 1, I have outlined my strengths, weaknesses, learning strategies, and preparation plans for the upcoming unit test.
I feel most comfortable with the concepts presented in Chapter 1 related to factoring, factoring by solving, rationalizing, simplifying radicals and understanding the concepts behind them. These concepts resonate with me due to doing a lot of practice in class with others, saying what I think out loud has made me catch myself from making a mistake multiple times.
I find the most challenging aspect of Chapter 1 to be multiplying and dividing radicals (given example of this on section 1.6 on image attached.) This area presents difficulty for me because I usually make silly mistakes early on which lead me to the wrong answer multiple times before I catch it.
Regarding my learning preferences, I typically grasp new material effectively when I enjoy what I am learning, and especially when I am challenged. My most effective way of learning is just doing the practice over and over until I understand the reasoning and meaning behind each step. This approach aids in my comprehension and retention of complex mathematical concepts.
To prepare for the upcoming unit test, I have done quite some practice uploaded to teams, as well as the assigned homework questions. I have completed most of the assigned practice problems. If not yet completed, I intend to finish them by Tuesday 8am.
The statement, “I persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning, and behavior,” holds significant meaning for me in the context of math class. It signifies a commitment to tackling difficult problems with determination and discipline. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of actively engaging in the learning process, setting personal objectives, and assuming responsibility for one’s academic progress and conduct.
Personally, I believe it’s crucial to maintain a sense of accomplishment to sustain momentum toward success. Viewing setbacks as opportunities for growth.
