Core Competency Reflection

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is…

Using pictures and photos to demonstrate my learning, I have a hard time articulating my thoughts verbally so using photos and visual representations helps me visualize my imagination. I relate to this prompt because I have a hard time simulating my imagination.

When I need to work collaboratively with people I don’t know well, I…

Usually get to know them before working on the collaborative project. I find that even if you don’t know them you can still put your brains together to work. I relate to this prompt because when I had the oil spill project I barely knew my group members prior.

If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to…

Take a step back and address the core problems. Without knowing the core problems you can’t move on and choose a path forward. When I was doing the biome project with Dylan Jackson and Sean, It was hard to agree on anything, we all took a step back and made our minds clear without arguing, we incorporated a little bit of everyone’s idea into the end project. I relate to this prompt because of the Mr. White project.

Reporting Reflection

My Reflection

The Writing Process

I encountered many difficulties, mainly in the process of finding sources to cite as well as people to interview. It was quite hard to find people to interview because I didn’t know if people have had experiences with certain things, such as sleep deprivation. I tackled this problem by essentially interviewing them, asking them broad questions would still make for a good quote on my story. It was surprising how easily I could knit together different quotes and information to make a fully fledged news article. I enjoyed many aspects of this course, mostly the social part, I loved doing projects with my friends, peer editing their rough drafts, and developing my own stories that I thought were interesting. I had a lot of overdue assignments, this class taught me how to put my head down and get projects done efficiently, while still writing with quality and thoroughness.

Core Competency Reflection

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by…

Taking their feedback into consideration and actively writing with their feedback implemented into my style. I value feedback because it makes my articles much more well-rounded, having multiple opinions helps me view my article from multiple angles.

If my partner is not productive, we can …. in order to get things moving in the right direction.

Be corrected by our teacher. Unless we have some sort of guidance there is almost no motion into the right direction.

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is…

When I helped Golbarg edit her first draft for her breakfast story, I rewrote almost half of it because it was horribly written with fragmented ideas and spelling mistakes every other sentence. Another example was when I gave Asal different ideas on what to write her review on.

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I…

Listen to music, take a walk, or drink water. I find these things usually help me regain focus, music helps boost my mood and a walk helps me regain my mood by coming back with a different mindset.

My Goal

I have valuable ideas to share about… and do so by…

My goal is to help articulate my thoughts more efficiently by taking apart my ideas and writing them out. I have many good ideas I just don’t know how to present them. Presenting my thoughts will help me write better and end up with a more sophisticated end result.

Core Competency Self-Assessment

Critical and Reflective Thinking.

Describe 1 Leadership Quality you possess. Provide an example of that quality.

A leadership quality I possess is being able to persevere, no matter what the issue is I can find a way around it. I expressed this quality on many occasions, one being the school teacher night, me and leadership student Ali found a way where we could easily articulate information to parents who were ESL by using more expression to get past the language barrier.

Describe 1 Leadership Skill you possess. Provide an example of that skill.

A leadership skill I possess is the ability to step out of my comfort zone to try something new. This term I’ve started a club with a friend I met through leadership, Nolan. With 50+ members and counting, Community Club is working with the city of Coquitlam, adopting a group of high flood risk storm drains around our community to manage. Founding Community Club has allowed me to express my skills well, meeting new people and developing a “get it done” attitude.

Describe 1 Leadership Quality you would like to develop by the end of the course.

I would like to develop more of an open minded mindset as my leadership quality. This will enable me to take in other ideas better.

Describe 1 Leadership Skill you would like to develop by the end of the course.

I would like to develop a stronger work ethic when it comes to schoolwork, as it’s hard for me to find motivation.

Life Saving Measures

All images

There are many misconceptions about CPR, one key thing that can determine the outcome of an affective resuscitation is that the first push onto the persons chest should break their ribs. Pressing down 3-6 inches is the amount you’re aiming to push down.

A lot of people don’t know about the dangers of vaping, vaping can kill you slowly by fogging up your lungs, so much you’ll need to be put on oxygen to stay alive. Vaping is filled with toxic chemicals, some which are even used in anti-freeze.

A small dose of Naloxone can save someone’s life. This drug can help open up your brain pathways to allow you to breathe again after an overdose. Many people don’t know how to administer it to an overdosed person, it’s very useful to know. It’s administered via a syringe, into a person’s arm or leg.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

Evidence around me suggests that almost every drug has a side effect. They can have life-threatening impact on me. I should always come prepared in-case someone around me overdoses, I should carry a Naxolone kit, as-well as up-to-date knowledge of CPR.

Inductive/Deductive Reasoning in Popular Games

Inductive and deductive reasoning is very prominent in games like Mastermind. In Mastermind you use little coloured circles to

fill in blank spaces , you need to re-arrange the circles to be a certain way to win. Every time you check it tells you which ones you got in the tight spaces or which colours you got right. A strategy I used was re arrange them in a way where I could check which colours were right but in the wrong spaces, use the right ones and re-arrange them till they’re right. The game uses both inductive and deductive reasoning, deductive in the sense that you’re assuming which colour is going to be in the spot. It uses conductive in the way that you’ve developed a strategy that always comes to the same conclusion.

Math 10 Core Competency Self-Assessment

Working collaboratively with others

Working with others has helped me effectively learn more intricate concepts, my group knowing what was going on and explaining it to me on a one-to-one explanation helped me internalize the information.

Dealing with challenges

Dealing with challenges was something I think I did well at in this course, having a toolbox that constantly expands with new methods of learning and studying was very useful to me, I could memorize concepts and rules easier when I have the correct way to deal with them

Strategically preparing for assignments

Preparing for assignments is something i’ve never been good at, no matter what I would underestimate the size of the test / project and I would end up underprepared and underperforming, I’ve found ways to schedule time to study for my assignments and tests, and it’s showing.

Learning and using math vocabulary

Math vocabulary is hard to remember, since you don’t use words like “cosine” or “cubed root” on a daily basis, so it’s hard to really compound it into your memory. A tool that really helped me was flashcards. Flashcards helped me compound phrases in french, and the same thing applies to math, it helped me learn all of those weird words, as well as what they do and mean.

My advice to future students?

This course is going to take a lot of work and you should start studying in the summer, because every mark will count. And if you don’t feel sure about something while you’re in a lesson, ask questions, it’ll save you from falling behind and not understanding a crucial building block.

Domain & Range

x2-y2=9

DOMAIN = -3<=x<=3

RANGE -3<=y<=3

DOMAIN means LENGTH and RANGE means HEIGHT

Using the vertical line test I drew a straight line down the y axis, it intercepts 2 lines therefore the line isn’t a function.

I used domain and range multiple times in this assignment, in the first question and in the second question.

I used mathematical vocabulary in the second question to describe domain and range.

I spaced out my paragraphs to show different ideas, also to make it easier for you to read.

Computer Programming 11 Self Asssessment

In the last unit we worked on we were working on visual programming using the turtle module. This allowed us to make different shapes using python as well as cool designs and fractals. This unit was tough to understand but once I put enough time into it I understood how to make different patterns and use “def” functions to create loops. I was very intrigued by this unit in the sense that it was different from the regular uses of python. This was a fun unit to work on and was a nice challenge for me.

  • I can understand and share information about the turtle module (COMMUNICATING)
  • I can understand and share information about recursion (COMMUNICATING)
  • I can build understanding by putting time and effort into things (THINKING)
