Socials 10 – September 16th

Hello everyone! Today we are going to continue our conversation on identity, community, and environment. We will take down and discuss a few definitions that are going to carry into the first official unit of the course, and work on our assignments that were introduced yesterday.

Shape of the Day:

  1. Current events in seminar – Journal time! Time to explore news websites and find your own current events
  2. Introduce geography and associated terms –> what really is geography?
  3. Two videos to watch: The Paradox of Theseus’s Ship, and Personal Identity: Crash Course
  4. Project work

Listed below are some guidelines that will help you out with this assignment.

  • Be creative! You are purely drawing where you are from, and that can be mean anything! You can draw your childhood home, your family, the place where you feel most comfortable, etc.
  • Put time into the assignment! We will be spending a lot of the class today working on it, and it is not something that will be finished in 10 minutes. Thinking about yourself and reflecting on the experiences in your life makes you a better social studies student.
  • Remember the definitions for identity, community, and environment. You will be responsible for thinking about what each of these mean to you, and explain how they are represented in your drawing.
  • I am not marking your on your art skills, but I want to see you try. This will be a part of your engagement and critical thinking marks as this is the time to reflect upon your lived experiences. You will receive a mark out of 10.
