The Writing Process

My favorite thing about this assignment was interviewing my dad. I was able to learn new things about my family that I didn’t know before. I was able to find out where I came from and my origin. My dad seemed happy that I chose to interview him, because he loves telling stories about himself and things that happened in his life. The challenging part of the assignment was putting everything together. I found it quite difficult to gather the information and present it in the form of an essay. What helped me write the essay was organizing everything in a timeline. This way I was able to order all of the particular events chronologically. Creating questions helped me because during the interview I had a good idea of what I wanted to ask. Making a draft helped me as well because I was able to structure my essay before I started my final copy. Getting my draft peer edited was also very helpful because I was able to correct my mistakes and make my essay better by using my peer’s tips.

Core Competency Reflection

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by applying the feedback into my final essay. With this feedback, I can make my final copy to the best of my ability.

As an active listener, I notice that I may make mistakes sometimes. If someone tells me that I am doing something wrong, I will listen and try to correct it. If someone tells me to fix something on my final copy, I will listen and apply the feedback they give me

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is using the tips they gave me. Ideas from two people rather than one person can help make a better essay

Others find my feedback useful because I help them figure out holes they need to fill in to make their essay good. Peer editing is very helpful because it helps you figure out what you need to do to make your essay to the best of your ability.

My goal is to put more effort and detail into my assignments and projects so I can maintain a good grade. I would like to focus on paying more attention to feedback from my peers and teachers so I can be successful going forward.
