Core Competency Goals

When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I: Can use strategies such as listening to music or taking a break from studying to watch Netflix or something that will improve my mood. Listening to music helps me take my mind off any distractions that may be taking away my focus during studying or completing homework. Sometimes I also enjoy taking a break from studying if I have been doing it for a while and watching a show on Netflix that will improve my mood and get me ready to go back to studying and focusing in on which ever subject it may be that I am working on. I can implement these strategies when I study or do homework to improve my overall mood and attitude towards schoolwork and help myself re-focus if I start to stray away from the task at hand. My goal for this semester is to focus on doing these strategies to improve my concentration during long homework or study sessions.

– I know the group is working together well when I hear/see: Group members working collaboratively by sharing ideas with each other and making adjustments to each others ideas to refine them and come up with the best possible solution to the problem. Groups also work well when each member has a defined role in the group and when they know exactly what they have to be working on. It works well if you assign tasks to each member early on in the process to give a clear understanding of what is being asked from each group member. Communicating with your peers and sharing ideas with each other helps give a second opinion to these ideas which can provide suggestions to help improve these ideas and combine them to create a collaborative solution. My goal for this area is to share ideas amongst a group and create roles for each member to ensure that the group runs as smoothly as possible.

– Some of the things I do to stay mentally and physically healthy include: Ensuring I do some physical activity every day and leaving some time to myself each day where I can relax and reset my brain. Some physical activities that I enjoy are going to the gym, playing lacrosse, and walking my dog. These things help keep me active and also improve my mental health by distracting me from anything that I might be worrying about. I also leave some time each night to watch Netflix or YouTube which helps me wind down and lets my brain take a break from thinking about school or sports for a little bit. These activities are important to improving my mental and physical health and also improve my performance on the field and in the classroom as well. My goal here is to continue to get some type of physical activity each day and make sure to leave that time for my brain to wind down at the end of every day as well.
