My Digital Footprint

2. Researching Myself

I was really surprised with what showed up when I googled myself. There were instagram posts/pictures I thought I had kept private. You should always double check your social media to make sure it is all private.

3. Reflection of my Digital Footprint

Posting online is kind of the norm nowadays, especially with my generation. We are so attached to our devices that we feel lost without it. I have to be careful what I post on social media because it might affect me in the future. I have to think what I post, everything on the internet would never go away. I have to be positive with whatever I post online, this would affect how other people would perceive me just by seeing whatever I post online.

I have always set my privacy settings to my friends only and never public. This is to ensure that I could protect my online identity. And I don’t accept friends that I don’t actually know so as to limit who sees my post.

Future education: I know that with the digital world anyone can search you up, including teachers. I have to be careful when posting a comment, a picture etc. because anyone could see it. being mindful on what I do on the web would limit information about me.

Job and Career prospects: Future employers will now have the ability to find out about employee prospects even before they hire you. Even though there is some anonymity on the internet, your name is out there, and it maybe linked to some information you don’t want to share. And this might ruin your chances of getting hired.

A Picture That Has Impacted Me

There are many words to live by spoken by leaders, writers, poets and heroes around. The quote that has most meaning for me is the quote by Mary Anne Radmacher.” Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is that quiet voice at the end of the day saying,” I will try again tomorrow”. When I was very young my father shared this quote with me. It has always had great meaning to me and even now though I am older, I tend to repeat it on many occasions when I feel discouraged. Not only is this quote inspiring but it is also empowering.

My father reminded me of this quote during a Thanksgiving soccer tournament when I was 10. This game would determine if our team would move up from select bronze to select silver. We were down 0-1 at half time. At that moment I had lost hope of winning and my teammates were feeling disheartened. My coach and my father got the team into a huddle and shared the quote with all of us. Hearing these words gave my teammates and I the courage to keep trying our very best. At the end of the game we had won 2-1. The feeling was jubilant because we had beat a team that was at a much higher level than we were. My teammates and I learned through the quote that you have to believe in your own courage and continue to get up when you fall and keep on trying.

I will always keep this quote close to my heart and hope that others could also find it beneficial to help during stressful times in their lives. Finally, courage does not have to involve running into a burning building to save someone but it can be as simple as to face each day. Courage is a motivator for standing up for yourself and helping others in need. Without realizing it, everyone shows courage on a daily basis in their own way.  When people stand up for what they believe in, have the courage to reach out for help when they need or simply saying that you are wrong and need to apologize. Courage is a quiet but necessary attribute to have in life.

My Favorite Quote

“Grow Through What You Go Through”- Eric Butterworth

I chose the quote “Grow Through What You Go Through” because it is my favorite quote and it means, don’t go through life; grow through life. In life there are always going to be struggles, ups and downs, but you will learn from past mistakes and try to improve on it.
