Critical and Reflective Thinking
Should our criminal justice system be more punitive or rehabilitative? Why?
In certain cases, our criminal justice system should be more punitive. Mainly, to prevent offenders from re-offending, and harming others. We see this frequently in Downtown Vancouver. Individuals will offend, authorities will detain them, the offender will be released shorty after, and the cycle continues. Most of these crimes involve assault, which should be taken more seriously. Rehabilitation is very significant as well, but the criminal justice system can only do so much to help offenders.
A better approach would be to assess offenders during detainment, to see whether this individual can be rehabilitated and go from there.
I can analyze evidence to make judgements
I can analyze evidence to make judgements by taking notes in class, bouncing my ideas off others, asking questions, and thinking through the evidence presented from cases.
