The Picture of Dorian Gray

The Writing Process

This was a very fun, relaxing project.  I first started by reading the book, then bookmarking sections that contained quotes that fit the project criteria.  This part was the easiest to do, as all I had to do was read the book. It was also the most interesting since it’s exciting to see what happens next in the story.  Finding quotes for the different parts of a story proved slightly more difficult since there were many phrases that could work, but might not be the best quote.  Lastly, the class presentation was fun too, since I had a chance to talk about my book with the class.  Overall, this project was enjoyable and I’ll take the public speaking skills that I used in this project to other courses.

Core Competency Reflection

I show others that I truly value their contributions by…

I put away any distractions and remained focused on the speaker, clapping when they finished presenting.

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in…

During my presentation, I effectively communicated a summary of my book, including all the quotes that I found for my assignment.  Additionally, I built on my public speaking skills by using a loud and clear voice.

I seek, develop and weigh options as demonstrated by…

While reading my book, I found multiple different options for quotes.  I had to weigh how efficiently the quotes related to the assignment, and choose a few quotes based on that criteria.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I…

Going forward, I would like to use this as a goal, since this is the first time I’ve read a classic book.  Being more open minded in terms of my book selection would widen my book choices and thus my knowledge.
