Core Competency Goals

  • If there is disagreement within the group, I find it helpful to go over the topics at hand and try to hear everyone’s opinion. Once everyone has shared input, we can as a group choose to vote. Those who cannot agree should not work in a group.
  • I make an effort to include missing voices/ perspectives by advocating for them and bringing their idea up to the group. i believe that everyone deserves to be heard.
  • As an active listener, I notice that I tend to relate myself to that person’s situation or story. I do this almost subconsciously because I am just trying to understand them better.

Law- Deserted Island

About the Activity

In this activity were given a scenario where the class was stranded on a deserted island. Were asked to come up with a legal code including punishments, a system of enforcement, and some form of government. Then we were asked to compare our code with the other legal systems and codes.

Core Competency Reflection

I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation. I did this while I was writing the legal code to compare it to past legal codes as well as re-writing the laws so that there was no contradiction.

I can understand how my values shape my choices. I noticed that the values and morals I had, greatly shaped the laws I implemented into my legal code.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others. I was able to come up with my own government system and who holds the power. I was able to look at other legal codes and take inspiration from them.

Goal

I can participate in activities that support my well-being and take responsibility for my well-being.

I need to make more time for activities that support my mental and physical well-being. I have been preoccupied with schoolwork so I would like to have time for more leisure activities as well as having time to eat healthier and exercise. I will do this by managing my time better.

About the Project

For this project, we had to look at several different scenarios for life after university and assess how the different options have benefits and costs. We had to assess if the different options were worth the cost and how it would benefit me in the long and short term.

Core Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements.

I did this by looking at the prices and costs of the university for several different schools. I was able to compare the outcomes and analyze which path was the best for me.

I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.

I was able to neatly organize all my options onto charts and clearly compare the costs and benefits of each option.

I can understand how my values shape my choices.

Because of the project, I was able to see my values and see if they outweighed the costs of tuition for each schooling option. This ultimately affected my choices.

I can work to inform myself about issues surrounding me.

I was able to adequately find the costs of university and find a solution to how those costs would be covered in a reasonable amount.

Curricular Competency Reflection

I was able to research a topic and find all the information I needed in order to successfully answer the project requirements. I was able to organize the information and present it in an organized document. When all the costs and benefits were calculated, I was able to decide on which option best fit my needs.
