Murder Cupcakes

Making and Sharing Reflection

When I chose to make this recipe I knew that it was going to be a challenge; from finding a good cupcake recipe to making the sugar glass, this recipe was definitely put my skills the test. To make the sugar glass I had go out and buy corn syrup. I was really scared to make the sugar glass because it meant that I had to work with boiling sugar and that’s something I had never done before. There was a bump that I ran into after the sugar glass cooled down, the sugar hadn’t set properly!! the outside was all sticky and squishy. I was scared that it was not going to work but, in the end, it came out perfect, a little bit wonky but perfect.

Core Competency Reflection

In this lab I used critical thinking and creative thinking. I used creative thinking when I was looking for recipes and I chose to make sugar glass cupcakes, I knew that no one in the class was going to do anything like it so I wanted to stand out. I used critical thinking when my sugar glass hadn’t sent because I had to find a way to make it set properly, I left it in the fridge until the last moment and made sure not to take it out before, or else the glass would melt.

One goal that I have for myself, is to be more creative. I want to think out of the box with the recipes that I make at school and at home.

Burrito Bowls

Making and Sharing Reflection

For this lab we had to work collaboratively with our group members; my group only had 2 members during this lab so we separated things a bit differently, hector working on the honey and lime chicken and me working on warming up the spanish rice and making the tortilla chips. During this lab we had to also collaboratively work together by assigning role, and working together on certain aspects of the food making process. We as a group chose who did what by using the “dibs” style of assigning. this worked out because we both got things that we were comfortable doing. I knew that my groupmate and I were really going to like this recipe and the cooking process which ultimately decided how well this lab was going to go.

Core Competency Reflection

Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can bee seen during the process of cooking the designated recipe, I know that to have a group project be able to work out and not go into shambles is by communicating. I make sure to talk to my partner before we do anything in the kitchen just to make sure that we are on the same page about what we will be doing.

Some things that I think about before dividing up tasks among group members include who has done these tasks previously because if they have, the other group members should also have a chance to try out the different tasks that we have to do in class.

Banana Chocolate chip Muffins

Making and Sharing Reflection

I Made a quick bread called a “muffin.” This muffin was crammed with ingredients such as bananas and chocolate chips. Despite the amount of ingredients that were needed to make it, it was rather easy to make, at least compared to some other recipes that have proven to be difficult. Something that went well other than its simplicity was its taste. It tasted pretty good, even though it had frozen, biohazardous looking bananas, but it was still very tasty. Something that I learned in class that was helpful was to fill the cups in the muffin pan only two thirds of the way full. This was mainly so that our muffins would stay in their designated spots and not spill all over the pan.

The ways that I communicate while cooking differ from how I communicate at my taekwondo, because when i am there we have to communicate to the kids and explain to them what they have to do and how to do it properly because is we don’t and they start doing it wrong it will affect them in the long run. while when I’m cooking I have more patience because I find that it is calming.
