About the project

What I had to do for debate project was first touch base and get a basic understanding of what my group mates wanted to do present ideas that we should either add or focus on. Ask them what they want me to add and want they want me to focus on. I also did some public speaking for the project and compiling rebuttal preparations.

Core Competency Reflection

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I demonstrated this core competency in the way of listening to my group mates and supporting them in the way of agreeing to the ideas they were coming up with and either adding on these ideas or coming up with ideas that branched off the ideas they were presenting. I also showed active listening when listening to the other group when talking about their ideas and points to come up with contradicting points.

I can think about what I am going to convey and to whom I will convey it. when preparing to speak I will go over the speech or in specific the points I am going to be covering and prepare to speak in a way that is understandable and will be easy to listen too.

I can work with others to achieve a goal. As I said in the first paragraph of this core competency I was able to talk with my group to present ideas and understand their plan for success. To work with my group mates to express ideas and take in their ideas and plans.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. When going over the plan of what we are going to do and asking what I can do for help, I offered to do anything they needed help with doing my share not just in the work and public speaking aspects but more in the way of a supporting aspect allowing them to convey their needs and what aspects of the work they need the most help with and volunteering to do these aspects for example, presenting, writing script, doing research etc.

I intend to work on the “I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences.” I feel like I need to work on this aspect so I can speak more from a personal standpoint to get a better understanding of both sides so I can be more prepared when presenting more in specifically the rebuttal aspect if I can get a view from my personal background than from a logical background I feel that my rebuttal will be more stronger and present more facts that can be related too.

Curricular Competency Reflection

I was able to make ethical judgments in the way of legislation during this presentation, in the way of basing most of our research and facts around “criminal code 293” which banned polygamy in Canada and why polygamy was banned the reasons polygamy is so frowned upon that the government of Canada has banned it most of this research all ties back to legislation which in turn made our judgements very legislative focused and more fact than personal opinion.
