Anatomy and Physiology Core Competency

The artifact that I chose is from a Diffusion Lab and this is specifically a starch cell after 24 hours in an IKI and water solution.

This artifact is from the Diffusion lab and shows observations throughout the lab.

During this lab, I worked with a partner and to create this cell which required collaboration. We had to work together and take on roles and responsibilities to make sure we did the lab correctly. We made sure that we had equal responsibilities and helped each other out because many parts of this lab required us to work together. For example, while making the cell I had to open and hold the dialysis tube carefully so my partner could pour in the solution. We also had to work as one while tying the cell to secure it. We did have times when we were confused about what to do next and helped each other out by thinking out loud. We made sure that we both understood what was going on before starting the next step so we could avoid any miscommunication. For example, we were confused about how the leak occurred in our cell and had to work together to figure out what went wrong.

For this lab, there was a lot of critical thinking involved as well and that can be seen in the second artifact. While doing the lab we had to observe the cell and solution before the 24 hours and after to see if there were any changes. The starch cell after 24 hours turned completely blue and from what we learned in class I could determine that the iodine and water diffused into the cell. I then had to analyze specific things such as mass, volume, and concentration. I then gathered evidence to support my observations which included an increase in mass from before the 24 hours. This required critical thinking because I had to figure out what substance diffused into the cell and what diffused out. lastly, I had to write a conclusion to summarize what happened in the lab and determine if my hypothesis was supported or not. I had to gather all my observations, and evidence to come to a conclusion on what happened in the lab.

Graphing a Parabola

My Equation:

In both of these parabolas you can see the difference in the vertex and the shape of the parabola. y=x² has a vertex of (0,0) and the axis of symmetry is x=0. The other parabola has a vertex of (-2,3) and the axis of symmetry is x=-2.

What is the significance of a, h, and, k in my equation?

In my equation the significance of a is to determine if my parabola opens upward or downward also if it is wide or narrow. If a is a negative value the parabola opens downward, if the a value is a large number it opens more narrow, and if the a value is a decimal or fraction it opens wider. In my equation since a is -4 that means it opens downward and is slightly narrow. The significance of h is to determine the x value of the vertex point. In the equation h is the opposite because of the the vertex form of the quadratic function which is f(x)=a(x-h)²+k. For example in my equation y=-4(x+2)²+3, h is 2 and in a vertex point it is (-2,3). H also represents a horizontal shift of how far left, or right, the graph has shifted. The significance of k represents a vertical shift of how far up, or down, the graph has shifted. K is also the y in the vertex point for example in my equation (-2,3) 3 is k and y.

A mathematical idea i represented in three different ways would be my quadratic function. I showed the equation in a graph form, and equation form, and in words.

Give an example from this assignment where you used mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate your understanding.

Where i used mathematical vocabulary would be horizontal shift, vertical shift, and vertex to describe h and k. I used this vocabulary to demonstrate my understanding for the significance of h and k.

Give an example from this assignment where you used formatting to share the information in a clear and organized way.

In this assignment i used formatting to share my graph so the information would be expressed in different ways for a better understanding. I wrote out my equation to begin, showed a graph, and broke down my equation to each term for its significance.

My Digital Photobook

In Business Application 12 we created a photobook with a topic we choose and presented it to the class. My photobook was about my favorite sport: Swimming and I descried my daily schedule, clubs, injuries, disqualifications, and a little about my swimming journey. The photobook was made on a word document and we added pictures and designs to it. I communicate clearly and purposefully, using a variety of forms appropriately. This is a communication skill that I demonstrated in this project because I was able to use what I created and explain my topic and each heading to my class clearly. I can present to my classmates clearly with different forms and for this project I used Word to present my project. I communicate purposefully, using forms and strategies I have practiced. This is another skill of communication that I demonstrated because I can explain a topic that is well known to me and that I understand with different platforms. A challenge I encountered will working on this project was the speaking and presenting section. I found it a bit difficult to go up in front of the class and explain my topic. I became really nervous while presenting but I used the tips given to get through the presentation. This skill is important for everyday life because you need to be able to talk to a larger group and express yourself. In a work space you should be able to create a presentation and be able to present that to you colleagues. In general this is skill is important because you will be encountering more situations like this is in work or your personal life.

Our Utopian City: Pahlily City

Values

Health

In every community every person wants a healthy life, and good health care. It’s a main part of every city that there are good facilities and places that help you maintain a healthy life. Without proper health care everybody would be in bad state because we depend on good health to do our daily tasks. For this reason, Pahlily City has built a great hospital with outstanding medical care to insure everybody is safe. We also have a park and trees everywhere to maintain a healthy environment with clean oxygen to keep you all right.

Happiness

every city should be filled with happiness and the inhabitants should always feel comfortable. Nobody should feel lonely or in a position where they are bored and have nothing to do. That’s why in Pahlily City we make sure that everybody is having fun and living an exciting and content life as they should. We ensure that there are many activities to do indoor and outdoor like our movie theater, waterpark, and community park.

Desire to improve

Desire to improve is value in our city that stands out from others. We want our city to keep growing and helping our community improve. We want to create new things and discover beyond out capabilities. This would give our city and advantage in growing and will allow people to be more creative. It can open new opportunities for people around and help us move towards a better future. In Pahlily City we created a laboratory so these activities can be done in a safe place.

Security

Security is an important part of every city to make sure that the community is safe. People should be allowed to go around and not worry about their welfare being threatened. We want everyone in our city to feel comfortable in their environment. In Pahlily City every person is safe, and the community is protected with our local police station nearby.

Acceptance

An accepting community is always our first priority. We make sure that everybody feels welcome and safe. People should always feel comfortable where they live and be accepted and loved for who they are. In Pahlily City everybody has the freedom to be who they are and express themselves without judged. Everyone can express their opinions freely and their priorities will be valued. We have a community park where everybody can gather and come together to express how they feel. We think that it’s very important to be accepting and open minded so especially in honor of pride month we have pride flags on display as you enter the city.

Symbolic colors: red and blue for the police station that represents security and trust, a red cross for the hospital that represents health and trust, and green for calmness and nature.

Communication Reflection

This project was about building our Utopian City with the values that we came up with in our a group. We used the values and created a city that represents what those values mean to us. To create our city we used the program Minecraft. While building we used symbolic colours that represented the building and labels to indicate what was going on in our design. In our group we communicated well and shared our ideas to have more to work with. We kept thinking of creative ways to represent our city and combined our ideas in the process of making the design. We worked efficient together and used our time wisely organizing what we wanted to get done for that day. We had a plan of what we had to accomplish in our class time and when we where at home. When we were making decisions we took both of our opinions into consideration and decided which would work best. In that process we didn’t really face any problems we worked effectively and smoothly together. I was satisfied with our city at the end we added many details in our design and created meaningful values.
