Racism within Canada with regard to To Kill a Mockingbird.

Racism Within Canadian society has been an everlasting issue in Canada. Firstly, the First Nations people have been significantly mistreated and racially profiled. Many systems put in place were designed to benefit white colonists while disadvantaging the First Nations populations who had lived here prior to colonialism. This power dynamic continues to be upheld and reinforced in our society, extending its impact on new racialized citizens. Furthermore, black citizens have been ostracized from Universities and Colleges. According to a 2016 report from Statistics Canada, the black community were less likely to obtain post-secondary education compared to the rest of the population in Vancouver, with a difference of around 10%. From these examples above, we can clearly begin to realize that racism is still an immense problem in Canada. In drawing things to a close, my opinion on racism has remained unchanged after reading To Kill A Mockingbird. The book has given me even more of a reason to fight for the struggles that these groups face in their everyday life.

Japanese Internment Paragraph

By: Rosan D.

It felt like a few weeks ago that I saw my neighbour being dragged out of her house and forced

into an internment camp. She was a small, old lady, and wouldn’t even hurt a fly. The actions of

the Canadian government were not justifiable one bit. The law, “Innocent Until Proven Guilty”

was clearly violated. Trials were not even put in place for the innocent Japanese Canadians.

Where was the proof to put them in the camps? Just yesterday the R.C.M.P. said they were

found to be loyal and by no means a threat to Canada. How much longer will my neighbour

have to endure these racist acts? I hope to see her soon.

Curricular Competency

  • I made an ethical judgement about the action of internment the Japanese-Canadians in my paragraph by making sure the unfairness that the Japanese-Canadians went through was clearly indicated.
  • I did assess and explained the changes the Japanese-Canadians went through in my research handout by explaining that the everyday innocent Japanese-Canadians were forced into camps.
  •  I did assess and explained the justification for different views of Japanese-Canadian internment in my research handout and paragraph by explaining the view of many non-racist individuals.

Core Competency

  • I did analyze evidence from the research I did and made judgements which has been shown in my paragraph.
  •   I now understand and can appreciate diverse perspectives on issues and can resolve problems effectively and responsibly by this assignment which has helped me see that people are not bad just because of their ethnicity.
  • I now understand what is important to me and I can explain my values since the situation that the Japanese-Canadians faced have opened up my eyes.

English 9 Final Reflection

I show that I value feedback from others in my group by making their feedback known and heard. I make sure that they are not hiding and that they express their ideas. I look out for other group members that might say ”it’s wrong” and I ask them to be thoughtful of all the ideas shared.

This visual representation reflects the Core Competency: Communication and how I grew in that competency in English 9. The words represent my thoughts. I chose to symbolize my thoughts as a brain because of the hard work and all the brain power me and my group members used to create our Choose Your Own Adventure Story. Me and my group members were all one brain, sharing ideas and thoughts to each other.

Choose Your Own Adventure: The Vaccine Incident

My partners, Brian, Jacobe, and I created this choose-your-own-adventure story for our English 9 class. The theme of this story is, “You should never trust strangers.”

Communication Reflection

Our project, created by Brian, Jacobe, and Rosan, is about a zombie apocalypse that occurred after a failed COVID-19 vaccine attempt. We used the program called, “Twine.” This program allowed the reader to pick options, and choose their own adventure. We got in touch with each other through multiple social media apps including, Instagram, and Discord. Each one of us brought up multiple ideas, and we gave feedback on the best ones in a call. My responsibility was writing, and creating the whole story. (With all members contributing different ideas.) I made sure that each group member contributed to the design by giving them general roles and jobs in creating the story. Our group worked marvellous together. We are best friends and we were already comfortable with each other. We used time generally well, giving deadlines for when certain items should be completed. Decisions were made when a group member brought up an idea, and the whole group decided before it was used. We faced some technical problems, such as not being able to save. We solved them by telling the teacher and asking for guidance. We were all satisfied with the final product. This was our first time using a software such as twine, and we think we did an exceptional job on it. We could improve the process for next time by bringing up more ideas, and using all of our time to work on the story. This was a fun experience. I hope we will do this again in the future.

What’s The Word Around Town?

Reflection

a. Was I able to identify how the geography impact the town / city with ease? How was I able to find how the physical geography impacted these areas?

Yes. I was able to find how the geography impacted the town and how they could make money from it. I was able to find out the physical geography by researching the different parts of physical landscaped in or around my chosen town. It was really easy as I just had to search up the landforms around my town. I had a lot of information already in my notes, so most of my information came from there.

b. How did the technology personally affect my learning? What were the pros and cons of using maphub.com? Be detailed in your response here.

I think that using Map-hub was a great idea as it was easy to use. Technology didn’t affect my learning at all since I have a device at home and I am familiar with using a computer. The pros of map-hub was that it was easy to use, simple, and fun! I think that I would use this in another project. I don’t think there were any cons of map-hub for me.

c. Were you satisfied with the result of your design and solutions?

Yes. I am satisfies with the way it turned out and the way I did it.

d. How would you refine your assignment in the future?

Adding in more points and making those points more detailed with more information.

My Favourite Website

https://stockx.com

this website is a site where you can buy and sell shoes!

they are mostly consisted of expensive shoes, or what we call, hype shoes.

I personally go on this website to buy and sell sneakers.

I make a little extra money from this business.

My Favourite Video

A Social Experiment Video Raising Awareness About Homeless People

This is a link to a video of a social experiment where they tested whether people would help a homeless kid or a homeless man. It means a lot to me because of the way the homeless man is treated. People were throwing food at him, and spitting on him, telling him to “Get a job.” This video means a lot to me because my life goal is to help as many homeless people as I can get back up on their feet. Many homeless people were Army Veterans and it sucks to see them get treated poorly when they fought for our country.

My Favourite Image

Jesus

This is my favourite image because I am religious and I put Jesus deeply in my heart. I picked this image because it shows Jesus reaching out his hand, as if blessing you. This image shows a lot of passion and confidence. That is why it is my favourite image.

My Favourite Quote

“You must be the change in the world you wish to see”

-Ghandi

This quote means a lot to me because it tells you that you can’t just say something and wait for it to become true, but rather you have to take action for what you say and what you believe. This quote tell us to speak out for our wishes to change the world.
