My Digital Footprint

Google yourself. Are you surprised by anything?

I was surprised that no pictures of myself showed up because I have a youtube channel so I thought some pictures from there would have showed up on Google. I didn’t see any websites that said my name in them.

What my digital footprint looks like:

I think my digital footprint is helpful when it comes to other people trying to learn more about me. For example when people search my name, they can find my instagram account and my youtube channel. They can also see the comments i post on public instagram accounts and youtube videos. For the most part i think that my digital footprint has all good information about me. There is nothing that i saw that i wanted taken down which means whatever other people see will be good things too. The comments that are on my digital footprint reflect constructive commenting because none of my comments are bad. They are mostly funny and nice.

My existing digital footprint won’t affect most opportunities negativly because there is no negative things on the internet related to me. For future education, colleges or universities will be able to see my instagram account and youtube channel and youtube comments but I don’t think any of the public information will affect my chances of getting into college. For family and friends, when i meet new people and they get curious and search me up, they will not see anything bad or mean which means they will know that i am a good and fun person.

3 strategies to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe:

  1. Make all your pictures, videos and posts private to make sure that only you and people you know and trust can see them.
  2. Regularly look yourself up to make sure that your information is not being put online without you knowing.
  3. Create good passwords that you never share to make sure that no one can hack your account and post things that you do not want to be posted.

The information I learned:

I learned that your digital footprint can affect how others see you. If you post bad things on the internet, you do not know where they are going or who can see it. I would tell other students to use the strategies that i talked about before to make sure that only things you want to be posted are being posted. I also learned that so far i am good at keeping my information (that other people can see) private.
