For education, there is a university in the centre of our city. We decided to make education a value in our city because we believe that it is an important part of developing into a knowledgeable citizen.
Nature
Nature is an important value in our city, as we support a clean and healthy environment. To represent this throughout our city there are scattered flowers and trees. There is also a small stream running through the park with a bridge going across it. This creates a beautiful and peaceful place for people to spend their free time.
Entertainment
We believe entertainment is a big part of what pulls a city together. In our city, there are many activities to do such as watching movies at the movie theatre, playing soccer or other sports at the sports field, using the track, camp at the campsite, and other activities inside the community centre.
Exercise
In our city, there is a soccer field and walking track to demonstrate a safe place to exercise. We believe exercise is important and should be included in an everyday life to keep active and healthy.
Accessibility
Our city focuses on accessibility because we think that is one of the most important things in creating a good city. To incorporate this value, we added a grocery store, hospital and everything else surrounding the houses for easy access.
Colours:
Yellow
The colour yellow is shown a lot in our town because it represents happiness and energy. We believe a city that makes you happy and energetic is something that allows you to love where you live. A few things that are yellow in our city are the flowers, part of the grocery store, part of the movie theatre design and the community centre, as well as a few more structures.
Red
Red is a colour that shows strength, health, and passion. Multiple things in our city use the colour red such as the flowers and buildings like the hospital and the border of the community centre. Strength, health, and passion are important characteristics that make a city feel comforting and safe.
Blue
Blue represents intelligence as well as peace and relaxation. In our city, we used blue to create our university and movie theatre design. The colour blue is also shown in the park as there is a small stream to add more nature.
Green/Brown
Green and brown represent nature. Throughout our city the main colour you’ll see is green; we have lots of trees, grass and flowers surrounding our city as well as in our park. Brown is shown mostly in the ground/dirt/sand and roads throughout our city. It is also part of the trees and bits of a couple of buildings, as well as the bride overlapping the stream in the park.
Communication Reflection
Our city is about creating an accessible and entertaining place, where people also feel safe and at home. To design our city we used a simple notes app with a drawing feature, we felt it would make our city look nicer since we could add lots of detail and different colours. To communicate throughout the process we used Snapchat, alongside using our limited class time to plan who would do what and when. We listened to each others ideas by sharing them when we had class time and showing each other what we’ve done through Snapchat while at home. My responsibilities were writing the values and colour meanings. We both edited and gave ideas to each other. I think we worked pretty efficiently together, especially when planning and getting everything done on time. We made decisions by asking each other what we liked or letting each other edit and make improvements. We faced a problem with the actual designing of the city part because I couldn’t use the same app we used for drawing, meaning I couldn’t take part in drawing. We solved this by Jasmine being assigned to drawing and me assigned to the main writing piece. We both contributed in each others parts by stating our ideas and editing till we both liked each others final product. I liked the final product and I don’t think I would do anything different if I were to do it again.
I wrote this article, for my ‘positive digital footprint’ project. I created my design on the edublog itself since it would make the most sense for what I was doing. I didn’t use references since I have heard what i wrote before and also from personal experience, I did put the links for the pictures underneath the pictures themselves.
Knowing how to create and maintain a positive digital footprint is important, not just for the present time but for later in life too. Your digital footprint follows you throughout your life and can’t be deleted: well not easily at least, your posts and searches on the internet are there forever even if you take it down and/or delete the account.
People can take screenshots, pictures and save your posts usually without your knowledge. Oh, remember those ‘terms and conditions’ you ignored and accepted when creating an account for your favourite social app. Yeah those terms and conditions usually state something about using or storing your information to make your ‘social media experience better’ ; example: do you ever wonder why the adds you get seem so personal and targeted? Sometimes your apps keep the information on what you search and view on their app and recommend similar posts and searches from what you’ve looked at.
Thinking before you post is always a good thing. The poster, as shown above is a good mental checklist to use before you decide to post or share anything online.
Along with being careful with what you post you should also be careful when it comes to passwords and logins. Most people use the same password for multiple accounts; while this might be convenient it’s not too safe when it comes to cyber security. It’s best to have good, strong passwords so it’s harder for hackers or viruses to get though to your accounts and posting unwanted pictures or stealing data from more important accounts like your bank account.
Personal/social Competency Reflections
Some short/long term goals with my digital spaces include: keeping my digital footprint as small as I can and post as little as I can if possible, my plan to achieve them is, to think if I really have a need to post what I’m thinking of posting and to keep a lot to myself when it comes to my life; there’s really no need to post about my life since it could come back to me later in life.
Some of my preferred strategies for maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence are: using social media apps like Instagram/Snapchat appropriately and when sending things to people, whether it’s pictures or text; I keep in mind that it could be shared with others; even if what you send isn’t necessarily incriminating it’s still a good thing to keep in mind. Another way of maintaining a healthy, balanced online presence is, by keeping my presence relatively small, along with keeping my accounts private and using strong passwords.
Some of the ways I work to build and maintain online relationships are, by using social media apps like Instagram and Snapchat to contact friends. With Covid-19 most friends you can’t see in person especially if they go to another school since that’s really the most we see our friends now. So by using these apps to keep in contact with friends I can’t see face to face i can maintain my relationships with them even if it’s through a screen for now.
A. How was the ease of access in building your flip book, despite this being the free and limited version of the software? Making the flip book was easy but a little frustrating sometimes.
B. Were you able to apply the skills you learned in the planning stages appropriately to a digital environment? yes
C. What were the sources you researched that made this an “authentic make-believe” American Revolution flipbook?
D. Is there other software online that could have done the job better? Did you use another software instead? Explain. No.
Hi my name is Tammy I’m in ninth grade, I play ringette and love to spend time with my friends, dog and camp with my family. I like ringette because its a fun sport to keep me busy and meet new people. One thing I want to get better in this year is having better time management. I usually express myself by just talking, people that know me know I talk A lot. I learn best with in class notes and demonstrations or pictures to go with them. One of best courses is language arts. Even though it’s not my favourite thing to do, I still think I’m more skilled at writing, reading and speaking than other subjects like math. Math on the other hand is one of my stretch subjects, but onceI ask a few questions its pretty easy from there.
I chose this link because I volunteer for the SPCA camps every summer. I do this because I can be with kids and animals and a sometimes friends that do that also volunteer. It’s a way to keep busy and have fun every summer, except summer 2020 for obvious reasons.
My favourite video
I don’t have a favourite video but i do have a goal. My goal for this year is to get better at ringette since it’s only my second year playing the sport.
My favourite image
this is a picture I took of my dog while in the car on the way to a park. It’s one of my favourites because I love spending time with my dog and especially going to the park with him because he loves being outside. I also like to spend time outside in parks or camping with my family.
My favourite quote
”Your dream doesn’t have an expiration date. take a deep breath and try again.” -KT Witten. I don’t exactly have a favourite quote but this is a good one because even if you want to give up or think something is impossible it reminds you that you can do anything, anytime as long as you try, and put in the effort.
