Life Saving Measures

The three take aways that stuck with me was:

I learned many things I did not know before that will help me be more aware and cautious of people around me. The first thing I learned is that the first push in CPR is the hardest push because you have to break the persons ribs to be able to compress on the lungs. I also learned that with the Good Samaritan Act people can help the unconscious person and not be charged with anything if something goes wrong. The Good Samaritan Act helps to get more people involved if they see a person unconscious because they are protected. I also learned about opioid use and how the drug naloxone is used to help those who are overdosing. Furthermore, I found that there are many consequences to substance abuse which can damage your body and make you do irrational things. Another thing I learned is that different ways of ingesting drugs have different levels of effects like if you inject drugs into your bloodstream the effect will be more severe due to the substance going right into your bloodstream unlike taking an oral substance because it will have to go through the entire body before it gets to the bloodstream, so the effects are not as severe. In Conclusion, I learned many new things that I did not know before that will impact my views and actions in everyday life.

I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I believe in a quick situation, I could act fast to potentionally save someone’s life.

Biology 12 Diffusion lab Core Competency Self Assessment

Communication and Critical Thinking

I chose to do my core competency self assessment on my diffusion lab. Throughout this lab I had to use my communication and critical thinking skills to be successful. My partner and I had excellent communication skills as we had to do multiple steps together to get the best results. Communication was a key factor in many of these steps. For example, one person had to have steady hands holding the cell, while the other person had to work around their hands to tie a knot around the cell. I believe weak communication would lead to a disaster in a lab like this.

In addition, critical thinking skills were greatly needed to be successful in this lab as-well. We only had one question to ask Ms. Chew, so we had to think around things on our own and use that question wisely. We had to make educated hypothesis’s on what would happen and had to describe in detail what happened. We analyzed our data, made educated assumptions with the knowledge we learned by using our critical thinking skills.

Life Saving Measures

The three take aways that taught me the most was:

  1. To think quick on situations
  2. I learned how many people are overdosing and how dangerous it is. I did not know it was as high as 7 people a day.
  3. I learned the precautions towards preforming CPR to someone in need of it.

I Think these learning about the Naloxone and CPR presentation is an important thing to know as well as an important skill to have. The more people that know about these topics, the less people we will have in danger.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements too maximum my learning experience. I analyzed what the instructor taught us for CPR, and I practiced it on a doll.
