Life Saving Measures

The CPR demonstration from Coach Julio was a good refresher on how to properly use CPR on someone. He explained that bad CPR is better than no CPR, which was enlightening and shared his experience’s doing it on myriads of people. During the Naloxone presentation I learnt that first time users can die from a small dose and how Naloxone can save someone’s life if they are overdosing. I want to go into firefighting, so learning and listening to their experience’s was meaningful to me, reminding me that being prepared or mentally aware even a little bit goes a long way.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I will use the information they gave me to make decisions and I know now I have to stay calm and act on the situation in front of me. Julio’s stories showed us how stressful it can be in a situation where someone is not breathing, so by getting mentally prepared to help someone is critical.

Progress of Acoustic

I had to demonstrate my critical thinking skills throughout the entire process of my acoustic guitar. After I glued the back onto the sides, and I checked my sound board fit I realized I glued the back to the wrong side. By utilizes my critical thinking skills I was able to steam it off with an iron and water. When I glued the top of my body onto the sides, I found out that I forgot to glue some of the bracing in, so I made special clamps to reach inside my guitar to glue them in. I also tape of the measurement and stuck the ruler in with my piece until I got it into the right spot. The next guitar I make I am going to make sure I don’t make the same mistakes.

English 11 Poetry Reflection

My Poem

No Limits- By Tyler Folster

Curricular Competencies Reflection

The overall purpose of my poem was to express the feeling of riding a new board and illustrate the freedom of skateboarding. This poem was created to encourage any age group to leave the comfort zone and to push past limits. Getting a new skateboard was the inspiration of this poem and was able to explain by riding you don’t have any boundaries or rules to follow. Skateboarding has taught me to keep trying something until I succeed and to be self motivated. I used imagery to bring the skateboard alive creating the image of a brand new skateboard and by riding one it teaches you life lessons.

Core Competency

I chose the first thing that came to my mind and what I think about all the time; skateboarding is an important hobby that has taught me a myriad of things through the amazing experiences I got. All my ideas came from these experiences of skateboarding such as, buying a new one after I break past boards, trying new tricks and getting out of my comfort zone and by never leaving the skatepark before I land the trick I am going for. The thing that sparked my imagination was actually going to the skatepark and thinking about how it felt after riding a new deck. To improve my poem next time I will describe and be more specific about where I ride, so readers can imagine more of what obstacles I overcome.

Final Foods Home Lab

I planned for my meal to be colorful, full of flavor and inviting. The spaghetti sauce I made should be thick, with a bit of kick and veggies in every bite. The noodles should stick to the wall (al dante). The romaine lettuce should be crunchy, the dressing is garlicky with a hint of lemon. My angel food cake should be fluffy, light, and golden brown on the outside. There should be a thin layer of lemon glaze, and it shouldn’t taste too sweet.

My meal tasted amazing! It was full of so many great flavors and colors. The spaghetti had a nice warming kick to it. I decided to cut the veggies into small pieces, so there was veggies in every bite. The noodles were al dante and the sauce turned out nice and thick. The salad had a garlicky flavor and was very fresh. The only thing was that I added too much lemon, but it still tasted great. The angel food cake I made was golden brown, fluffy and light. My cake had a thin layer of lemon glaze, which was not too sweet.

Overall I think everything was perfect for my family, but something I would definitely change would be adding less lemon to the salad.

I think my knife skills really showed, because the veggies were cut small and about the same size. I got veggies in every bite I took.

My family is a multi-cultural family. We like making a variety of different kinds of foods. For my dad spaghetti was a comfort food for him and his parents when he was young. I thought it would be a great meal to make, because we really enjoy making this and I believe it describes my cultural identity perfect. I made angel food cake for dessert, because my grandma would always make this for birthdays.

Today I made my grandmas conjee. I used my grandmas recipe to make it. Congee is a Chinese porridge that is made plain, than you add your own toppings once it is cooked. Sometimes it can be cooked with different types of meats. I made it plain, than added BBQ duck, green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds. Maybe next time I could try cooking it with chicken broth. I did not have any challenges making this dish. It was pretty straight forward and easy to make. My greatest success was getting all the meat off the duck, because it took a long time. I am most proud of learning how to make stuff my grandma ate as a child. Overall it was a great success.

Today I made double chocolate cookies. For these I used my moms recipe from her recipe book. They are so soft and they melt in your mouth. I made a double batch, and I didn’t have many chocolate chips, so some of them did not have any. Next time I would probably add more chocolate chips. Something I had trouble doing was scooping the cookies the same size. I tried using one spoon, but than I tried using two and made it a lot easier. I think my greatest success was sharing them with my cousins, because they really enjoyed them. I am very proud of not eating them all myself and how soft and mouth watering they were. Overall they turned out amazing 🙂

Today I made my grandmas chow mein. Our family tradition is to have chow mein on ones birthday. Since it was my moms birthday my grandma showed me how to make her chow mein. Our family believes chow mein represents longevity, so we all have to have some to wish long life upon ones birthday. Chicken is used in our chow mein, which signifies health. We also have chow mein for Chinese new year. It has been done in past generations as far as my grandma can remember. In my opinion the best part about making this chow mein is eating it with our whole family, because everyone enjoys it. There were no challenges making this, because my grandma was a great teacher. I think the greatest success making this was that our whole family came over and even my little picky cousin enjoyed it. My grandma usually is the one that makes it, so me making it and people liking it as much as when she makes it made me proud. Overall I think this was my best meal I made so far.

Today was my grandmas Birthday, so I decided to BBQ for her. My dad usually BBQ’s for us, but today was my first time using it. There are lots of things you can use a BBQ for. I used it for hot dogs, smokies, chicken breast and chicken drumsticks. You can also use them for veggies, smores, steaks ect. Some safety concerns using a BBQ are burns, grease fires, never use it inside and don’t leave it unattended. If someone did not have a BBQ they could use a grill pan. I did not need a recipe to make this for my whole family. If I were to make this again. I would make less, because it was to much for my family, or invite more people. A challenge I had was that the BBQ was not clean, so before I cooked I had to scrub the BBQ. My greatest success was that the chicken wasn’t dry and the hot dogs were cooked perfectly. I am very proud of making this for my whole family for them to enjoy. Overall It was a great success.

Today I made apple cinnamon cookies. They were full of flavor and super light and fluffy. I found a recipe in my grandmas recipe book, but changed it up a bit. If i were to make this dish again I think I would add more apples. I did not have any challenges making this. The recipe was easy to follow. The greatest success about these were that they all eaten up and they looked and tasted amazing. I am most proud of my dog liking them. Overall it was a success.
