Pre-Calculus 11 Core Competency Self-Assessment

I chose to reflect on collaborating and working with my peers. During this semester we would do group work pretty much daily. For the first months we would be put in random groups when working, in order to help us get to know our new classmates. This allowed me to make new connections and learn other people’s strategies on how to solve questions using different methods. We then moved into our own chosen groups for the rest of the semester. Lucky for me I know the other people in my group very well which made group work overall more exciting, and I found it easier to learn with them.

This semester my time management was not the best for math. I am reflecting on this subject because I felt that I could have improved on it a lot. At the begging of the year, I was making very good use of class time and was always on task. But as the semester continued, I found my work habits and time management slipping away. I think if I had made better use of class time my mark in this class could be much better. unfortunately, there is not too much I can do about it now, but I will go into next year knowing this and hopefully applying it into my work.

I committed to my individual practices a decent amount. Due to my work habits being poor in class I found myself doing a large amount of homework. I would be on top of doing my homework for the better part of the year. This was helpful to me because it forced me to learn the material in my own ways. I do think I could have put more of an effort into studying for test and quizzes, doing my homework was not enough to do well in this class.

Advice for Future Students

I think the biggest thing to do in this class is to not let it overwhelm you. I was always fining myself overwhelmed and it made it hard to focus and achieve what I wanted to. The second thing I would do differently is study more, this would have made a very big difference in my grade. Even if you are just doing 30 minutes a day it will make such a big difference. The last piece of advice I would give is to slow down and pay attention to the lectures and group material.

Self Refelction

Describe how the artifact you selected shows your strengths & growth in specific core competencies. The prompt questions on the left – or other self-assessment activities you may have done – may guide your reflection process.

How does the artifact you selected demonstrate strengths and growth in the thinking competencies? In what ways might you further develop your thinking competencies?

The artifact I chose was my stock market project. We recently spent the last month working on a stock market project where you can research and invest in stocks.

This artifact demonstrated my strength and growth in the thinking competencies by making me spend time learning about how different stocks work and made me think about all the factors and possibilities that go into investing. This helped me further develop my thinking by really taking into accountability for all the possible things that could go wrong or right when investing.

My Parabolas

My Equation (blue)

Desmos’s Graph

Parabola’s Explained

When creating a function for a parabola there are a lot of factors. Some of the most Important ones are labeled as “a”, “h”, and “k”. “a” can means a couple of different things when it comes to plotting an equation. It tells us is whether the parabola opens up or down as well as telling us if the parabola will be wide or narrow. “h” helps us plot the vertex point on the graph. what ever “h” is you make it the opposite value whether that is positive or negative you flip it then plot it along the “x” line. “k” tells us where the vertex is as well just this time along the “y” line so for example in my equation “k” is -4 so this means that the parabola opens at (-1,-4).

Self Reflection

1. Give an example from this assignment where you represented the same mathematical idea in multiple ways? while explaining how a, h, and k work I said that both h, and k tell us where the vertex is plotted

2. Give an example from this assignment where you used mathematical vocabulary to demonstrate your understanding? In my description of how parabola’s work I used a lot of vocabulary from this chapter such as words like: vertex, function, plotting, a, h, k.

3. Give an example from this assignment where you used formatting to share the information in a clear and organized way? During this assignment I use colors headers and image sizing to help me stay organized and make the project look good.

Spanish Dialog

This Monday we did our first Spanish dialog script. My group overall was pretty good, we had a couple of small errors in our script like missing accents and some miss spelt words. but overall, pretty solid the flow of our presentation was good. we could have used a little bit more energy or even use of props. looking back, I know what I need to do differently in order to maximize my potential marks.

In this presentation I worked on my Collaborating skills. I worked with two people one I know somewhat well and the other not so much. despite this we worked pretty well together.

I used my communicating skills in order to get the overall flow of the group to be more successful.

computer programing 11 self reflection

a project that I enjoyed even while struggling was the jelly bean assignment. it took me a bit longer than it should have, at first I didn’t understand how to make the code more efficient so I looked online at videos on how to make your code faster and more efficient. I also reached at tp my class mates to help me understand better. i ended up finishing and getting full marks.

I can statements

I can identify criteria that I can use to analyze evidence I did this during this project by going over the criteria and demonstrations to carefully pick out what I needed to know.

I can explore materials and actions by looking at videos online or getting help from my piers.

I can analyze evidence from different perspectives by comparing my work to my piers and online videos to help make mine the most efficient.

Computer Programing 11 Self Reflection

The unit we are currently on is computer vision. we are learning how to swap or change pixels from images to different colors. this is my binarized image from the binarizing images practice assignment. we learned how to take the color out of the image and make it black and white.

I can explore materials and actions by using the extra videos given to help us.

I can ask open ended questions by listening to everything the teacher has to say and absorbing extra information.

I can identify criteria to finish my projects well and make sure they have the right outputs.

Linear System Assignment

Purpose

I needed to invent my own linear system and show how to represent it graphically and algebraically.

curricular response

The mathematical vocabulary I used during this assignment was: Linear system, X value, Y value, diagonal, values, point, addition method, and substitution method. A linear system is a set of equations involving one or more of the same variable. solution is where to point in a liner system cross, it is shown as an X and Y coordinate. substitution method is when you isolate one of the variables. it is very important that you use the correct vocabulary to help your understanding. Addition method is a method which you add 2 equations together in standard for with the goal of an answer of only one variable.

I decided to start by plotting the solution and then drawing the lines for the linear system. I did this because I thought it would be easier since I knew the 2 equations would be correct. then I wrote the equation for line A and B in slope intercept form. I did this because it would be easy to then turn into standard form if need be.

Core Competency Self Assessment

I can show a sense of accomplishment and joy. I take price in my work. if feel very good after completing my work and knowing I did well. I show a sense of accomplishment and care in my work by: looking over it to make sure it is done correctly and to the rubric.
