Separation Agreement

Scenario 1

About The Activity

For this project, my partner Anna and I were given details of a couple that were separating. Information such as jobs, wages, properties, children, and other possessions were included, as well as specific goals each person wanted to achieve. We had to have a negotiation to come up with an agreement, as we both wanted different things. Once we came up with an agreement, we had to write up the separation agreement document.

Core Competency Reflection

I can recognize different points of view and disagree respectfully. I chose this one because Anna wanted different things than me, and I had to stand up for myself and disagree so my client can have a good outcome.

I can ask and respond to questions to be an active, supportive listener. I chose this one because Anna and I had to negotiate, listen and ask questions, as we didn’t really know exactly what each other wanted at the beginning of the negotiation process.

I can work with others to achieve a goal. I chose this one because we had to work together to finish the project. We couldn’t have done it without each other or without equal collaboration.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. I chose this one because we both had to take on the roles of our clients as well as responsibilities to finish the project to our best abilities.

Curricular Competency Reflection

This project helped explore different perspectives, as Anna and I had to act as our clients and help them get what they both need. We couldn’t let both get exactly what they wanted because the majority of their wishes overlapped, so we had to make compromises. Doing this project gave us a taste of what a lot of families go through.
