Reflecting on my First Year

My Grade 9 Year

My Grade 9 year at Centennial is a year that I will never forget. I’ve met so many amazing people and I have grown closer with my friends, and I’ve learned lots of new things. This year I really enjoyed watching football games and going to flex with my friends, but I wish I could’ve tried harder this year because then I would have gotten better marks. Overall, this year has been my favorite school year by far, and I am grateful to be friends with such wonderful people.

Core Competency Reflection

I work with others to achieve a goal.

I chose this prompt because I worked efficiently with my partner and we shared and built upon each other’s ideas.

I find it easy to be apart of a group.

I chose this prompt because I enjoy working together with other people. Working together with other people instead of working alone is important because not only do groups usually get work done quicker, there are more ideas that are created.

I take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share.

I chose this prompt because when I was working with my partner, we decided to divide our work evenly, and we agreed on what our parts were. We both found information online, and she reworded the information, and I organized our script. We both organized and printed pictures out on the poster.

I can form new ideas to create new things. I can also build on the ideas of others.

I chose this prompt because when my partner suggested that we do a poster, I suggested that we should write a script along with creating a poster.

I give, receive, and act on feedback to progress in my goals.

Im working on this goal so I can improve my grades in school. To achieve this goal I will pay ask more questions.

· Why is it important to remember who benefits from the advertisement when you view an advertisement?

It is important to remember who benefits from an advertisement so you know your target audience.

· Choose one form of persuasion and explain why it is effective in persuading you/an audience: logical, ethical, emotional on an audience

The logical form of persuasion is important because it reminds people that it would be logical to buy their product because it will make things easier.

· Choose an advertising technique and explain why it is effective in selling a product.

Bandwagon is an important advertising technique because it makes people think that they are missing out if they do not purchase a certain product.

Core Competency Reflection

An example of where I built upon someone else’s ideas is when my partner had an idea to show the durability of the shoe so I suggested that we should record the shoe being dropped from a certain height.

I knew my group is working well together when I heard/ saw my partner and I building eachothers ideas and putting everything together.

One of the ways I ensured my group was clear on what we were doing was to check up on my partner and make sure that we were both on task.

  1. I can use my imagination to get new ideas of my own, or build on other’s ideas, or combine other people’s ideas in new ways.

As we worked in our group, I contributed to many ideas. Camryn wanted to do a porcupine, Cayden wanted to do a bee, and I wanted to do a butterfly, so I said that we could combine the three into one insect.

2. I can build relationships.

Doing this project with Cayden and Camryn brought us closer and I got to know them more.

3. I work with others to achieve a common goal.

Camryn, Cayden, and I worked on this project efficiently as I worked and contributed to my group by sharing new ideas and writing information on the poster.

4. I listen and respond to others.

When Cayden and Camryn shared their ideas, I would politely agree or disagree whether I though the idea was good or not.

What I learned

This year my classes have taught me a lot of new things, especially PE. Throughout our weight lifting activities, I learned about types of equipment and how to use them properly. I even surprised myself by lifting more weight than I thought I could. I also acknowledged that weight lifting can be recreational, and that its like a reward when you reach your goal. This year I also enjoyed playing sports. I improved my throw and spiral as we played football and improved my footwork playing soccer. I also really enjoyed learning more about emotional bank accounts and about social media. Overall, I think this PE year was one I’ll never forget.

1. How did you find working with your? When working with my group we all learned about new things and we enjoyed working together.

2. How did you contribute to the group? And how did others in the group contribute to your learning? – I contributed to the group by helping the group with calculations and jotting down answers.

3. Did you use any other the solutions proposed by your group? Why or why not? – My group and I used the solutions I used for a 1 year GIC.

4. How would you rate your ability to collaborate with others in your group on a scale of 1-4 (1 not good; 4- excellent) – For this assignment I could’ve collaborated more, so I give myself a 3.

I knew that stocks can be unpredictable so I chose a more standard, guaranteed investment. I knew that a GIC would be a safe option.

I reflected on my thinking by doing the Core Competency questions.

I can give, receive and act on feedback to progress in my goals.

I used feedback from my teachers and peers and it helped me with my choices and work regarding this assignments.

I can ask open-ended questions to gather information.

I asked my teacher for tech help. I asked questions that would help me decide whether I should choose a GIC or invest in stocks.

I know the group is working well together when I hear/ see my group members and myself working together and hearing them discuss answers to solutions and things about the topic.

Product Innovation PowerPoint and Oral Presentation Reflection

Instagram has truly been a significant factor regarding social media and platforms. It has affected society in many huge ways. Instagram is a great platform for business growth, where a company can share photos and videos of goods or services they provide. Although, the majority of Instagram users usually share photos of what they are interested in or what they love. It could be a photo of a dog, or a lake, or it can be a picture of themselves. In addition to posting, Instagram also allows you to chat and call. Even though you can’t text without wifi, it’s still a great addition. Instagram makes traveling and purchasing items so much easier because within one search, you can find many accounts or posts that help you find what your looking for. If your looking to travel to Hawaii, you could search “Pictures of Hawaii” and you’ll surely find what you are looking for. Instagram also has an online store where many users browse.
