During the squid dissection, I worked closely with my partner to carefully follow each step of the procedure. We took turns handling the tools and identifying different parts of the squid, such as the mantle, arms, and other structures so that we could draw our squid on our lab sheet and label each parts of the anatomy. When drawing the squid, we put it next to our lab sheet so that the visual and calculations would be accurate. We communicated clearly and divided our work evenly which helped us stay organized and complete the dissection successfully. By collaborating effectively, we not only gained a better understanding of squid anatomy but also developed teamwork skills. After we finished the dissection, we both worked on the calculations of the squid and found the drawing magnification, which was our last step. We then handed it in early because we had used our time productively by communicating and staying on task.
I communicated in class by frequently asking my teacher and peers questions when I struggled to understand a concept we were working on, and when others asked I gave them feedback. When working in groups I clearly explained my ideas and made sure to divide our work evenly. When we had projects I made sure to text my group members outside of school to discuss our ideas and plans so that we could achieve a high grade. During in class writes, I would ask my teacher questions so that I could create a paragraph that flowed well and is grammatically correct.
Thinking
I used creative thinking by building upon others ideas and learning new things from others to use in the future. I used critical thinking when I didn’t understand something at home. I looked through my notes to find solutions, and I used past knowledge to solve problems that I had. I made sure to ask more questions in class so that I could gain more knowledge for the future.
Personal/ Social
In my Spanish class, I actively shared my personal and social awareness by engaging in conversations about projects and assignments. I make sure not to be too loud so I do not disrupt the class, and I am respectful and kind to my peers. I am an active listener and I give feedback to others when they ask questions. I make sure that all my assignments are turned in and that I am ready for all upcoming tests.
I really liked reading this book, as it was very engaging and so full of suspense that I found myself reading it for hours. I really liked creating a powerpoint to present this to the class because it was enjoyable breaking down what I had learned from the book and applying it to an assignment. What I found challenging was identifying the initiating incident and writing paragraphs describing what happened in each part of the story. What I found surprising was that I was so engaged in reading and I usually don’t ever find myself feeling like that with other books. Overall, this was a great assignment and I look forward to reading more books and doing more assignments like this in the future.
Core Competency Reflection
Some skills I have developed to make my creative activities better include critical thinking skills, thinking outside the box, and asking others for ideas. This can be seen through my paragraphs and the way I structured the powerpoint.
Examples of where I communicate clearly and purposefully can be seen in this assignment. I thoroughly explained each part of the story and used evidence from the book to support my statements.
My strategies for collecting relevant information for specific tasks include trying to find every little detail.
When I need to boost my mood or re-focus, I take a 5 minute break and then come back to it, or I eat a snack. I need to start doing this more often because I often lose focus while trying to complete tasks so I will always keep snacks with me.
I think positive social media posts are very important because your digital footprint reflects on you in the future and whatever negative thing you post will always be out there. Posting positive things not only make you seem like a kind person, they also reflect well on you when you apply to university. If there are images or videos of you participating in illegal activities, or if your posting things that are disrespectful to groups or people, than this can really decrease your chances of being accepted into colleges, universities, and even jobs and careers. This is why you should only post things that are positive and ideal, and don’t overshare.
Core Competency Reflection
I can inquire into and present on topics of interest and topics related to my studies.
I can understand and share information about a topic of interest in a clear, organized way.
I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences.
I can make choices that keep me safe in my community and online.
I can understand that my identity is made of many interconnected elements. I chose this one because my identity is important and I learned to make sure that my identity online is always positive.
I can identify how my actions affect the community or environment and I can make positive change. I chose this one because posting positive things will create a positive environment online and reflect well on myself and my community.
An example of an idea I developed that was new to my peers is creating a realistic looking fake instagram post, reel, and story.
I can analyze evidence to make judgements. I chose this prompt because this has helped me realize the importance of your digital footprint after seeing people post negative and inappropriate things online.
I can ask open-ended questions to gather information. I chose this prompt as a goal I’m working towards because asking open-ended questions will help me much more gather information than asking straight forward questions. I will work towards this goal by asking myself what I specifically am curious about.
