From the CPR presentation, I learned the critical steps to take during a cardiac emergency. I now understand how to recognize signs of a heart attack or cardiac arrest, perform chest compressions correctly, and use an AED if available. The importance of acting quickly and confidently was emphasized, as early intervention can save lives. Learning CPR is critical in life because you may have to save a loved one, or others may have to save you. Understanding the impact of substance use has taught me the importance of making informed choices, seeking help when needed, and promoting healthy behaviours to prevent misuse and addiction. I learned that you should always know the source of what your using because many drugs can be laced with fentanyl, which is a deadly synthetic opioid.

Critical and Reflective Thinking Competency Reflection

I can analyze evidence to make judgements – from what I have learned during our presentations in class, I know that substance use is very harmful. Drugs can make a significant impact on the body, affecting both physical and mental health. They can alter brain function, leading to changes in mood, behaviour, and perception, while also damaging organs like the liver, heart, and lungs. Long-term drug use can impair the immune system, making the body more vulnerable to infections and diseases.
