Core Competency Reflection

“Pretty Circus” by River K, an oil pastel piece.

For this composition, once I decided I wanted to work with oil pastel, I struggled a lot with deciding what I wanted to draw. It was my first-time using oil pastel and I had no idea what the process of creating art with this medium would be like. When I started to draw, I realized that the idea I had in mind was not suitable for an oil pastel medium and I had to figure out a new drawing. Consequently, I did a lot of research and sketches, and learned how to work with oil pastels from artists who specialize in oil pastels. This allowed me to figure out what I wanted to draw for this medium. As a result, I was able to demonstrate my Critical and Reflective Thinking skills during this process. Moreover, I showed that I can consider alternative approaches and make strategic choices. Additionally, I can take risks and recognize that I may not be immediately successful.
