My Inquiry about Grief Youth Pamphlet

My Power Point about My Project

My inquiry was about designing a pamphlet that would be available to youth that are experiencing grief. I liked talking to Catherine Hajnal, her insight and aid were both very helpful. I learned how hard it is to get people to give good responses to surveys.

I definitely grew on my communication skills this semester. Catherine Hajnal helped me with being able to say what kind of answers I wanted through the survey. It was also hard to be able to figure out how I was going to present the information.

Conics Project

I used circles as my pupils and irises because they look round. I used hyperbolas as the under part of my eye and as the curvy bits on my bow tie. I used ellipses for my bow tie and my nostrils. I used a polynomial function for my chin because I have a slight chin cleft. I used inverse parabolas for the sides of my face and the round bits on my nose. The bottom of my nose is a cos graph because it curves into my nostrils nicely. I think that I went above and beyond because I shaded in everything on my face and neck except things that I wanted white.

Pre-Calculus Post

This semester I tried to keep an open mind about all the problems and concepts that we are doing. Last year I had a math class that wasn’t very good, and I had a lot of trouble in. This year I tried my best to stay positive about what we are doing. I didn’t really understand fully all the concepts covered last year because they were taught to me in a way that I did not understand but I tried not to let that stop me from learning the new concepts. One of the things that I was particularly not good at last year was trigonometry because of the way it was explained to me. This semester in trigonometry I think that I did pretty well with a basis of understanding that was not solid. I was somehow able to fill the gaps of my understanding and figure out how to do the problems.

Word problems have generally been one of the things that I feel I struggle most at in math. Some of the time I feel like I know what I am doing and other times I am just so confused. I was able to do a trigonometry word problem that someone else was struggling with. I tried to keep an open mind about the problem and think “I can do this problem correctly” instead of “I can’t do this.” I was able to complete the problem with only minimal help and I felt very good about that.

Curricular Competencies Reflection

I chose this project because it gave me a better understanding of the issues that Indigenous peoples have had to face and continue to face. This project allowed me to look at the Indigenous perspective and colonization in a different light. I inspected articles on the true story of Pocahontas and determined if they were authentic then, if they were, I contrasted them with Disney’s version of Pocahontas.

Core Competencies Reflection

This essay allowed me to grow my ability to creatively come up with conclusions and my own opinions on issues. I was able to look at two pieces of media and critically come up with which one was the more accurate piece. I was also able to help others if they needed input on their ideas.

BC First Peoples 11 2023/24

This course has been very helpful for me to understand the Indigenous perspective better. I went into this course with very little knowledge of First Nations past relations with Europeans and colonization. I feel that this course has been insightful on this history. At the beginning of the semester, I did not have much of an opinion about the Indigenous but now that I have learned more of the history, I have gained a much better understanding.

I learned a lot this semester, one of the units and projects that was helpful, and I found insightful was on the Indigenous wives of the fur traders. That project taught me the extent of what the women of the fur trade had to endure. It also illustrated the contrast between different relationships. Some marriages were for convenience alone and others were brought about by true feelings. It also led to a better understanding of that era of time where expectations were much different. The fur traders could just go out to the ‘new land’ to trade and while having a wife and children at home, have a second family in North America. It was a much different time.

Another unit that I found interesting was the unit on the gold rush. Before the course I had not really thought about how the Indigenous fit into the gold rush. It was a discovery to me to hear about all the atrocious act that took place against them. They never should have had to give up their land on false pretenses of return and peace.

Learning about the past has allowed me to have a better idea of the Indigenous’ cultural identity and how I am able respect it. Currently we are talking about cultural appropriation, and I was slightly surprised at some of the knowledge that comes with this unit. I like that we are talking about cultural appropriation so that we know what it is and are less likely to make a mistake that gets interpreted as cultural appropriation.

Pocahontas true story synthesis assignment

Curricular Competencies Reflection

This project has taught me many different lessons. I have learned about how Pocahontas’s story was romanticized by the media and what her true story is. I have learned about the different perspectives that the Indigenous had verses the colonizers that played a role in the portrayal of Pocahontas’s story. Though feedback from my teacher and classmates I wrote an essay that I was proud of. I have learned that I need to be critical of the information that is being fed to me though media. I should learn to be able to look at situations from other people’s perspectives. Better understanding other’s perspectives will help me with reconciliation by being able to empathize with the Indigenous.

Core Competencies Reflection

I feel that I did a good job communicating my ideas through this project. I took the resources that I had and used them and my own ideas to create an essay that was well thought out and addressed the issue clearly. I think that my conclusion on the contrast between Disney’s Pocahontas and her real story was put into words in an organized and clear manner. Next time we have to write an essay I will try to add more examples of my own ideas and make more connections between my experiences and the evidence provided.

Culinary Arts Reflection on Knife safety and techniques

Knife skills and safety is important in the Kitchen. Knives are one of, if not the most, important tools in the kitchen. Knives are very versatile and the way they are used is very important. By holding the knife by the blade and not the end of the handle, you have more leverage and control over the knife. When you are walking around with knives, it is important, for your safety and for others, that you hold the knife with the blade down. When you use knives properly you are less likely to cut yourself. It is also important to use sharp knives because you are less likely to cut yourself when you don’t have to force the knife through the food.

Titration Lab 20C

Collaboration

In this lab I had to do a lot of collaborating. I had to have trust in my partner and show confidence so that my partner had trust in me too. In the labs we had our things that we did and we trusted the other to complete. I was in charge of measuring out the HCl while my partner measured out the NaOH. We had to work together to determine how much more NaOH there should be added in order to not have our acid go bright magenta.

French 10 Skits

Evey and I’s chapter 5 skit was a very big success. We had to collaborate a lot to figure out what we were going to do. We made the entire script together and worked on what our plot line was going to be. Sometimes we ran into a little trouble on how to say something but we worked through it and it was okay in the end. Overall it was really fun to make and preform the skit.
