English reflection

Song project for Romeo and Juliet

I chose the song assignment to reflect on because I am proud of it. I got full marks on it and took my time, which is sometimes a struggle for me. I did a second draft which turned out way better than the first draft. This project also encouraged me to think creatively on how I was going to explain it. I really had to pay attention to the similarities between the play and the song that I had chosen.

Critical and reflective thinking Why was Canada’s war declaration on Nazi Germany (on September 10th 1939) important?

Britain had already declared war on Germany a week before Canada did. This shows the growth that Canada had made in the 1920s and 30s. Canada now was able to make its own decisions without Britain, but joining the war also showed that Canada supported Britain and France throughout WWII.

When in class, we are given information I can look through it and come to my own conclusions regarding the information. I can use information to make judgments by myself on what the meaning is.

Make sure that everyone is aware. I tell everyone ,when working in a group, what we want to accomplish and how we are going to do it. I everyone knows what they need to do to achieve the end goal then the process of getting to that goal is easier.

Brainstorming multiple different ways that my problem can be solved. I also look around and see what others are doing so that I can take their ideas and use them as a way to stimulate myself to make my own decision. I don’t copy them I use their work to encourage my brain to think of new ideas.

One strategy or activity that stimulates my imagination is brainstorming. For this project, we started with a brainstorm. We just though of ideas and started writing one idea. We were allowed to change our idea later, but we just started writing whatever came to mind. This was helpful because I got something on the paper, I didn’t just end up staring at the computer trying to come up with the “perfect idea” the whole time.

A skill I have developed to make my creative activities better is rewriting my story. I had to go back to my writing many times to revise it and fix the things that needed to be fixed. The next time I write something I will use this strategy to make my work as good as it can be.

When it seems the good ideas just won’t come to me, I would listen to music to help calm myself or create space in my mind to get myself in the mood of my book. When I couldn’t think of a way to take my story that felt like a good idea, I would listen to music. Usually it was music that was in the same mood as where I wanted to take my story. This way I could get my mood into the same mood as the story and I could put out more words that I felt went in the right direction.

One goal I have for my writing is to take more risks. I do already take some risks in my writing but I want to add more. to achieve this goal I will try to write more short stories that have different writing techniques in them.

Thinking

Whenever my group and I couldn’t think of any ideas on what to build, which was often, we would bounce ideas back and forth to find something that we liked and wanted to build. If someone had an idea, unless it was something that we knew would absolutely not work, we would try it to see if we could add it to our machine. If something that we tried didn’t work, we would try to change the idea to work and see if we could incorporate it into our machine.

This is the video of our completed Rube Goldberg experiment. We tried a lot of different approaches to complete this project. Some of our ideas were scraped, but most of them were added to the machine.

Following Script Format

I constantly compared my work to the model as I was writing the script up. I started writing my script by writing my name, block, and the date in the top right hand corner of my page. I then wrote up my script. after I had written up my script with minimal formatting I finished it up. I made the actions three tabs in and the speeches two tabs in so everything was spaced out. Then I was finished.

Core Competency Reflection – Collaboration

I can work with others to achieve a goal. I chose this because this project was a project where I worked with a partner to complete the script. I helped them and they helped me, and together we worked as a team to hand in our best work.

I can take on roles and responsibilities in a group; I do my share. In the project we split up the work evenly between us and bounced ideas back and forth.

I can apply constructive strategies to navigate misunderstandings and conflicts. When my project partner didn’t understand how to translate something into modern English or how to format something I helped them by explaining it to them so that they would understand how to do it in the future.

When I have a belt test for martial arts that I’m really worried about I just have to take a deep breath and tell myself that I’ll be fine and that I won’t fail. Sometimes there will be weekends that all my teachers give me homework but I’m also doing things over the weekend. When this happens I have to be very good at managing time. I do all the hardest things that I have first when I have time and then I do the rest of it when Im not doing things.

Core Competency Reflection

  1. I work with others to achieve a goal. When I have too much work to do, I work with the people in my live to get them done. I get my mom and friends to look over my work so I know I’m not making any mistakes and when I need a break I can play with my dog.
  2. I advocate for myself.  When I have a lot of work to do and I think that its too much for me to handle, I ask my teachers if I can have the due date on one of my projects pushed forward.
  3. I advocate for myself. When at home I’m getting too much work from my Mom, I sometimes have to tell her to stop and give my sister somethings to do instead of piling it all on me.
  4. I imagine and work towards change in myself and in the world.  When I feel like I have no control in the world I just stop and think of the things I can do and work towards them instead I stressing about things I can’t control.

Sometimes I end up advocating for others more than myself and I need to work on advocating for myself more.
