I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior. The first challenge was the initial discomfort of handling the squid—it was slimy, cold, and had a distinct odor that made some of my classmates uneasy. However, I reminded myself of the educational value and pushed through. Throughout the process, I learned not only about squid anatomy but also about perseverance and resilience. Each step required concentration and determination to overcome any squeamishness or uncertainty. By the end of the dissection, I felt a sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of biological systems. Reflecting on this experience, I realized that challenges like dissecting a squid are opportunities for growth. They teach us patience, problem-solving skills, and the importance of pushing through difficulties to achieve our goals. This experience has since encouraged me to approach challenges in other areas of my life with a similar mindset of determination and ownership.

Communication

I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. Dissecting a squid in school and scuba diving may seem different at a glance, but both activities share a need to explore, understand anatomy, and overcoming challenges. Both activities require a strong sense of curiosity and a drive to learn. Just like I needed to understand the anatomy of a squid during dissection, scuba divers must familiarize themselves with the underwater environment and the behavior of marine organisms to dive safely and responsibly. Both activities foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world, and dissecting a squid allowed me to gain insight into its biological functions and adaptations. Scuba diving provides firsthand encounters with marine ecosystems and their inhabitants and allows me to explore an unusual part of our earth. These two topics are linked through my passion and curiosity of both and my wish to pursue learning in both.

Thinking

I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation. Approaching the dissection of a squid with a mindset that considers multiple approaches is important in navigating the difficulties of this task. By contemplating various methods before dissecting, such as looking at anatomical diagrams, discussing strategies with my friends, and seeking guidance from my teachers, I can show thorough understanding of squid anatomy. During the dissection itself, remaining flexible and calm allows me to adjust my dissection techniques based on the specimen, ensuring a full exploration of the required structures. Learning multiple ways to proceed not only helps a deeper learning experience but also develops my problem-solving skills as I navigate through the difficulties of Bio 11 dissections.
