Squid dissection

Personal Social

I can persevere with challenging tasks and take ownership of my goals, learning and behavior. The first challenge was the initial discomfort of handling the squid—it was slimy, cold, and had a distinct odor that made some of my classmates uneasy. However, I reminded myself of the educational value and pushed through. Throughout the process, I learned not only about squid anatomy but also about perseverance and resilience. Each step required concentration and determination to overcome any squeamishness or uncertainty. By the end of the dissection, I felt a sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of biological systems. Reflecting on this experience, I realized that challenges like dissecting a squid are opportunities for growth. They teach us patience, problem-solving skills, and the importance of pushing through difficulties to achieve our goals. This experience has since encouraged me to approach challenges in other areas of my life with a similar mindset of determination and ownership.

Communication

I can represent my learning and tell how it connects to my experiences. Dissecting a squid in school and scuba diving may seem different at a glance, but both activities share a need to explore, understand anatomy, and overcoming challenges. Both activities require a strong sense of curiosity and a drive to learn. Just like I needed to understand the anatomy of a squid during dissection, scuba divers must familiarize themselves with the underwater environment and the behavior of marine organisms to dive safely and responsibly. Both activities foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world, and dissecting a squid allowed me to gain insight into its biological functions and adaptations. Scuba diving provides firsthand encounters with marine ecosystems and their inhabitants and allows me to explore an unusual part of our earth. These two topics are linked through my passion and curiosity of both and my wish to pursue learning in both.

Thinking

I consider more than one way to proceed in an investigation. Approaching the dissection of a squid with a mindset that considers multiple approaches is important in navigating the difficulties of this task. By contemplating various methods before dissecting, such as looking at anatomical diagrams, discussing strategies with my friends, and seeking guidance from my teachers, I can show thorough understanding of squid anatomy. During the dissection itself, remaining flexible and calm allows me to adjust my dissection techniques based on the specimen, ensuring a full exploration of the required structures. Learning multiple ways to proceed not only helps a deeper learning experience but also develops my problem-solving skills as I navigate through the difficulties of Bio 11 dissections.

Tritations

chemistry 11

Curricular Competency Explanation

A tritration is process where we use a concetrate of a known solution to determian the concetration of an unknown solution. The titration used for this certian lab is to use the data found while doing the tirtation to calculate the molarity of the hydrochloric acid. An endpoint of the tritation is where it is a solid bright colour, the equivelnce point is the middle ground where the colour is light. Once the endpoint as been achieved the colour change is permanent. The results of my tritaton were 0.11ml for all the intial volumes of NaOH, the final volume was 12.46ml for trail 2 and 12.45ml for trail 3. We uses 12.35ml of NaOH in trial 2 and 12.34ml NaOH trail 3. The average volume of NaOH achieved was 12.45ml. I calculated the molarity of HCl by figuring out the moles of NaOH then the intial moles of HCl, which gave me the molarity of 0.1245 HCl.

Core Competency Reflection

I can use evidence to make judgements or decisions evidence of the lab that we did. The notes I took in class help me accomplish my end results in the titration and allowed to to make decisions on whether or not I was getting closed to the end of tghe tritration or just making sure I had all the correct volumes meausred out. Critical thinking was a big part of this lab and so was collabration because we were working in two’s, this lab was also very tedious to do and needed patience.

Where the blood mixes

Describe Mooch’s character

There are multiple examples within the play that shows the character of Mooch. It is distinct from the story that he is a complex character. Early in the story we learn that Mooch is a thief and dishonest Mooch shows this when he says “I’m not stealing June’s money” everyone knows he is, and he promised June that he would not steal her money anymore. June does nothing but provide for her and him, but he just takes her money and spends it all in the bar with Floyd. However, mooch is benevolent, you see this when Floyd is asking where mooch put him when he was drunk. “I put you out back in between those two garbage bins so you were covered and would not get rolled” Floyd was passed out and mooch was looking out for him and did not want him to get rained on or robbed from so he just put him out back. Mooch just wanted to protect him because he worries about his friend and loves him. Finally Mooch is a jealous person. For example, mooch comes out of the bathroom and sees Floyd hugging June. You see his jealousy when he says, “so you are taking my girlfriend away from me now?” he did not want to know what was going on and he just assumed that June was cheating on him which led up to the fight mooch and Floyd had because he was jealous. Mooch let his jealousy get the best of him. To conclude it shows that mooch has both negative and positive attributes to his character.
