Meal Planning Assignment

Problem:

Help a family create a dinner plan for the week that balances everyone’s personal schedules and work between the family.

Solution:

Justification:

Monday: The family will eat Chickpea Cauliflower Curry for dinner and start at 6pm and end at 6:30pm. Parent B will cook a full meal to have leftovers for the whole family for lunch the following day. This works because Parent B get home from work at 5:30pm and can a have a little break, while Parent A and Teen 1 still get to do their activities without missing dinner.

Tuesday: Teen 1 will cook Chicken Noodle Soup for dinner and will cook a full meal with two leftovers for the kids to bring to lunch on Wednesday. They will start at 5:30pm and end at 6:15pm. This works because Teen 1 can cook medium difficulty meals and Teen 2 has an activity, so they can eat before and still be on time.

Wednesday: The recipe on Wednesday will be Black Bean Tacos which will be cooked by Teen 2 & Parent B and start at 6pm and end at 6:15pm. They will both cook a full meal and finish the meal with no leftovers. This works because Teen 2 can’t cook complicated meals and if something goes wrong they have Parent B there to support them. Plus Teen 1 has an activity, so he can eat before and have energy.

Thursday: The family will eat Chicken Stroganoff and cook a full meal with no leftovers made by Parent A. Parent A will start dinner at 6:30pm and end at 7pm. This works because the meal takes about 30 minutes to cook and Parent B has to leave at 7:30pm for an activity that night.

Friday: Parent A & B will cook a full meal of Chicken Pot Pie for the family and will have leftovers for lunch on Saturday. Parent B will start the meal at 5:30pm and they will both end at 7pm. This works because Parent A gets home later on Fridays, so Parent B can start when they get home and Parent B will join in when they get home at 6:00pm. Also there are no after school activities and that’s why the meal preparation, can be longer than usual.

Collaboration Reflection:

My group and I shared information by communicating the different ways we can lay out and design our project in a creative way.

We used our technology by using the shared word document to figure out how we wanted to plan this assignment and different ideas we had, sometimes is was difficult when we couldn’t figure out how to send the word document to my group mates but after the problem was solved it was easy to collaborate.

Our tasks were distributed in our group by the topics given: recipes, time, cook, and portion. Everyone around us were distributing days of the week, but since there were four people in our group, we stepped out of the box and did the categories given, that way we could talk more and disuses what works and doesn’t.

For my part of the project, I contributed by figuring out which recipes would work for all of the days with all the different busy schedules from the family members.

Self Assessment: Collaboration and Critical Thinking

Some things I thought about before dividing up the groups were how can I make everyone happy with their and job and make it unique. That’s why we came up with assigning the topic to everyone because it was easy and ceative.

I know the group is working well together when they are asking questions because they aren’t afraid to ask and it can clear up something that was a problem before or someone might have thought of it before the issue accorued.

I use evidence to make judgements or decisions as demonstrated in this by helping out which job people want and helping fill out the meal planning table. Some things we disagreed about how to distribute the jobs and than we made a vote and that’s how we made our decision about which roles we want and how we want to split them up.

I remain open minded as I explore viable options or alternative approaches, like when I was talking with my group mates about who wants the extra job to do. When one of our groupmates didn’t how up we had an extra role to assign. We wanted to split it up into different days but that was to difficult for everyone to do. So we decided to pick the person who was closest to finishing there blog, and they gave the role to me.
